As a non techie I was wondering if the following Toshiba adapter would be OK to use with my Netbook. At the moment I am using a US power converter with the standard UK power adapter which is clumsy to say the least.

TOSHIBA PA2438U
Toshiba Part Number: PA2438U
Category: AC ADAPTERS
Subcategory:
Notes: Input: 100-240VAC, 0.7A-0.4A, 50-60Hz, Output: 15VDC, 2A

I notice that the UK adapter states an output of 1 Amp - will 2A damage the Netbook?

Thanks,

Grant

Should work as long as the 15VDC is regulated - i.e. the power supply is a switch-mode power supply. Switch mode power supplies are generally lighter in weight than non-regulated supplies.

I recommend that you check the output voltage with a good DVM. Ensure that voltage is between 14.9-15.1 VDC, Also check that the centre pin is positive (this is *very* important).

IF POWER SUPPLY IS NOT REGULATED THEN DO NOT USE IT.

Don't worry about the power supply being rated at 2 amps. This is a maximum rating, and Netbook will actually draw less current than this. As long as the rated current is larger than the Netbook's requirements, its the voltage that is important.

Pucca Psion Netbook supply is 15.5VDC. However I use a regulated 15VDC supply with no problems whatsoever.
