Will the 3a support e mail and full syc. with 'outlook'? Playing around with one at the moment! netBookBabe 09-24-2002, 06:15 AM Nigel, quick reply... The Psion 3a doesn't take CF cards. The A and B slots are for SSDs (solid state disks) which perform a similar function. Software for the 3a was often produced on that type of disk. Post again if you need to know more. You certainly can sync the 3a with Outlook. I would definitely recommend PsiSync (used to be called AgendaSync IIRC). It synchronised for me far better than PsiWin ever has and it's a great pity that a version of it was never produced for Epoc. http://www.gadec.com/psisync/default.asp Julie MikeMcC 09-24-2002, 06:16 AM The two doors are the SSD bays. The 3a uses Psion's proprietary (and horrendously expensive) SSDs or "Solid State Disks". There are two types: 1) RAM disks which behave like the machine's internal memory although they can only be used for file storage and not additional processing memory. A battery is required to retain the data while out of the Psion 2) Flash disks which don't require a battery to retain data but, unlike RAM disks, the space used by a deleted file isn't recovered. If you open, edit and save a file, it just takes up more and more space on the disk. The space is only recovered by formatting the disk. Therefore, RAM disks are used for data that has to be edited, updated etc. but Flash disks are used for the program files which, once installed, don't change. I have a 512k RAM and two 1MB Flash disks so I can format one Flash disk and copy the second to it then format the second, thus recovering the unused space. They may have dropped in price now if you can still find them but when I bought mine they were each over £100! Fortunately, the S5 onwards changed to the non-proprietary Compact Flash storage. netBookBabe 09-24-2002, 06:33 AM I never managed to afford any SSDs when I had my 3a! By the time I really needed one, I decided that the money was better put towards the purchase of an S5, so that's the path I took. Psionex still sell them, at between 10 and 125 UKP. http://www.psionex.co.uk If you cast around on eBay though, you might pick one up for a fiver! Julie PDA Street
