My "C" would show as connected to my 2Wire Home (1000SW)portal but would not allow me to the internet.
Maybe this is obvious to other people, but I'm new to this and I spent 3 weeks discovering this fix - and wanted to share with others in case they are experiencing the same problem -
These are the steps you take assuming you have already entered your WEP key etc. etc.

Thank you for contacting 2Wire Customer Support. The following is intended to answer your inquiry:

The problem has to do with a DNS issue, you will just need to hardcode those into your Palm for this connection:

To open the Communication Preferences screens:
1. Press Home.
2. Tap the Prefs icon.
3. From the Communication Prefs list select Wi-Fi.
4. Tap the Network pick list and select Edit Networks.
5. Select a network and tap Edit.
6. Tap Details.
7. Tap Advanced.
8. Leave the IP Address set to Automatic.
9. Change DNS Server to Manual.
10. Enter your ISP's primary DNS server into the Preferred DNS (if you do not know what that is you can try 207.69.188.185--however, you should contact your ISP and get their settings).
11. Enter the HomePortal's IP address for the Alternate DNS (172.16.0.1).
12. Tap Ok.

You should now be able to browse using the Palm's web browser. This configuration information can be found in your Tungsten manual under Setting Preferences for Your Handheld > Setting Communication Preferences > WiFi preferences > Adding and editing a Wi-Fi connection

Your post has been very helpful to me! However, when I look at my broadband data, they list three different numbers, as:

Default Gateway: 204.60.4.34

Primary Domain Name Server: 204.60.203.179

Secondary Domain Name Server: 66.73.20.40

I've tried variations on these, but get a "connection failed" no signal.

Does this mean I have entered the numbers correctly, and I'm not close enough (12 ft. away) from the signal, or ?????

Unfortunately I don't know much about all the different numbers & address's myself !
All I did was let my C discover the signal and then after entering the WEP key, I followed the directions that I had posted using those exact numbers.
Do you get a signal but it just won't allow you to the internet or do you get no signal at all ?
This worked with my 2Wire Home Portal, is this the same modem/router that you have ?

Yes, we do indeed have the same portal hardware. We've subscribed to SBCglobal for our DSL.

I figure it gets a signal, because it does tell me that the network is there - but it never actually has connected since I entered the numbers. I have stood right next to the homr port,, and still get a "no signal".

It's probably time to get to tech support, unless anyone has other brilliant ideas. I felt so good about getting the key & server numbers in!

Okay - ya I have the SBC service as well, so that set-up should work -
I'll expalin exactly what I did - I would tap Wi-Fi set up, and the 2WIRE signal would show up with a lock symbol beside it, i would hightlight the 2WIRE signal and tap edit, the WEP (wireless encryption key) window pops up, i would select the 40 bit hex option, and then type in the 10 digit passcode (that is supplied on the bottom of the home portal).
After this it would show as connected (green signal bar) but would not allow me to actually reach the internet, then I spent 3 weeks getting that post that I put up from 2WIRE support (who were very helpfull, much better than SBC support that's for sure !!) - Once I followed those steps it worked perfectly, I didn't have to do anything in the 2WIRE monitor setup no special settings, all default.
I hope this helps
