Hi, I bought my Zire a couple of days ago, and it's great. Yesterday, I purchased a sandisk SD card, and upon putting it into my Zire, my zire did a Hard Reset !!!  wtf? Was I supposed to do something before putting it in? Anyway, I went home and did a hot sync and everything was back to normal, thank god. Currently, I am trying to put some music onto my SD card via HotSync. I just installed Pocket Tunes so I could listen to ogg vorbis files. I couldn't seem to transfer them with RealOne; does RealOne even support ogg, because it seems to transfer music MUCH MUCH MUCH faster than hot syncing.

My question is, how fast (transfer rate) is hot syncing ? It seems to take LONGER than 1:1 recording (1x). Ie. My minidisc records at 1x, so it will record as I play the song. I thought mp3's were supposed to be transferred at high speeds? Would I benefit from purchasing a card reader? How much performance gain will I see in terms of transfer rate's to the SD card between Hot Sync, USB1, or USB2 card readers?

THanks :D :) :P ^_^:p

Upload speed is determined largely by file size, although hot syncs are definitely the slowest option available.

You can speed things up with a card reader, or by recording/modifying your files to a smaller size- 96kbs, for example, instead of the more common 128 or whatever.

96kbs is 'near CD quality' and is great for PDAs and listening with earbuds or smaller headphones- you'll need more sensitive equipment and/or a better listening environment to hear much difference between the two, and 96 or so kbs makes MUCH smaller files!

Also, one key to hot syncing with RealOne is not well documented- you need a folder on the card at root level called AUDIO, otherwise, RealOne does not ahve a destination to sync to.

Hi madkins thanks for the tips :D :)

I am currently using Pocket Tunes now, it rocks! :D

I'll probably pick up a card reader today. :D

Oh, how would I go about making directories on the card? Do I need some sort of file managing program, or is it built into the Palm OS? Somehow there is already a directory in there, I guess one of the audio programs made it. When I go to view card info, or something, I can't see any of the actual files, all I see are the types and sizes :O

Thanks :)

FileZ will let you create a new directory on the card. Also, once you get your card reader/writer you will be able to create them from Windows or whatever OS you use.

Don't recall WHERE I saw it, but someone makes a travel charge/sync cord with a built-in SD card reader.

Also, if you have a LOT fo cards, you may want to check out one of the readers that goes into a 3.5 or 5.25 bay in your tower.

I believe that device is called the Innopocket Sync Gear 3-in-1. It got really high marks in CNET.

Hey, fonso, would you know if the Sync Gear 3-in-1 is available in Manila and if so, how much it costs?

I doubt it's readily available Stardust, but if you're willing to spend a little extra, I can ask my friend, the owner of PC Express, to place a special order. Otherwise it'd be best to have it shipped to a relative in the U.S., and have him/her fly it home :c
