I installed the Compaq Active Synch onto my laptop, running WINDOWS XP Home, but I can't get it to work. I installed same on my Desktop running Windows XP Professional, and it works fine with absolutely no problems. I tried un-installing and re-installing on the lap top, but it still will not connect. My Laptop detectd the IPAQ, and tries to connect, but it doesn't. It asks me to make sure my port is available, or that the IPAQ is connected (which it is), but I can't get around this problem. ANy help, someone?
Thanks...

guess what?
i joined this forum just to try and help you :)
first put the companion CD in your laptop drive
then plug in your iPAQ
run the add hardware wizard
then it will ask you where to locate the driver and select the CD drive
hope this helps if not email me @ ma012a9931@blueyonder.co.uk

Ipaq1910 Lover,
Will try as you suggest, but do note that the laptop DOES see the 3850, and attempts to conect with Active Synch immediately, but the connection attempt is not succesful.
I then get the message asking to make sure the connection or the port is available, etc.

Do you have AOL running on that machine?

To answer Mason Hatcher: Yes, there is AOL installed, but I am not running it.

So, you had the same problem, how did you solve it?

Tried the suggestion of IPAQ1910_LOVER, no joy; didn't work.
Still can't synch, won't connect, but Windows XP still detects the IPAQ on attaching to the cradle, then Active Synch tries to connect, with no success.
Any further suggestions?
