I already posted this morning that Amazon changed their availability for the iQue from "to be released..." to "usually ships in 2-3 days" (which even implies to new orders that it would be immediately available).
Since then, I have tried to track down some smaller vendor who I could speak with on the phone and find out if they actually received it (can't talk to Amazon, this is the problem with the big vendor, and yes, taking small advantage of the small guy who can give me 3 mins without placing an order)
I spoke with a small on-line vendor, who shall remain nameless to protect them...
What she told me was that she knows she will not be receiving her units today or tomorrow, but is hopefully to receive her initial order (or part of it) late this week, but she's not assured of this. Her contact told her the units have not left Garmin yet and are still being tested. I asked specifically if she knew if they were "in the country" and she wasn't too sure that her contact at Garmin even knew that information. She admitted that her contact is "usually the last to know."
She said that her order is #2 in the queue at Garmin (she didn't know who #1 was) and that she ordered 50. She was told that the initial shipments from Garmin were only 200 units in total. She didn't know if they would go to first come, first served or if everyone would get partial shipments. She surmised that if one was on "a" pre-order list with any reseller by say early June, that you'd get it by the end of the month.
She said that it wasn't until the 1st of the month that Garmin got the OS approved by Palm. From a technical point of view, I don't know if this required any work or changes in the production process.
In any case, what we also don't know is if her experience is the same as the larger vendors - REI, Amazon, etc. Maybe this is why TVNav guy took a vacation 'cause he knew he had no work to do this week :-) Still holding out hope for arrival this week, but definitely want it for my July 27th pilgrimage to Cooperstown for Induction Weekend!
Cheers,
Caleb
