I'm looking for a program to track hurricanes on my Zire 71. I'd want to be able to input the coordinates and have it draw the map for me.
Anyone know of a program out there?
Thanks,
Nancy
Hi Nancy,
I'm looking for the EXACT same thing!!!!
Sorry I can't say that I know of one yet. Have you found one (and if so could you PLEASE reply with it). There is a program called "Cyclone" out there (search for it on google), but it's black and white and "no frills".
Thanks a lot !!!!!

No, sorry to say that I have not found what I am looking for. Looks like an opportunity for SOMEBODY who is into programming on the Palm OS! I used to use "Tracking the Eye" on my PC about 6 or 7 years ago and it would be great if a program did what that one does. It was a DOS program if I recall.
I considered contacting Christian at tinystocks.com since he did such a great job with his Stock Manager Program. Perhaps he'd consider taking it on.
Nancy.....good idea. I forwarded it on to him. Hope it helps. I'd love this type of application. Cheers! Good luck. Let me know if you ever find one and I'll do the same.

Great Mike -
I'll keep looking and let you know if I find one. Let me know if Christian responds with interest...I think his Stock program is tops.
I've followed hurricanes for years...even before I had to live thru Andrew!

Tracker - that's it.
The version of Tracker he currently has on the site is ver. 4.1. On the opening page of his site he says it is for OS5. :(
Too bad. It looks pretty nice on my Zire 71. The one nice feature it has over Cyclone is that you can actually see and edit your data entries. There is a data list of all coordinates entered for the storm. The map has a zoom feature. And you can tap a datapoint on the map and it provides the coordinates and windspeed. It has an export feature so you can export the data for a storm to memopad. There is an import feature but it is not yet functional. The info page says he's working on that. Also, there is a beam feature. I haven't tried that since I don't know anyone else with OS 5.
Cyclone has a larger map area. Tracker limits the input to 60 - 100 degrees longitude and 10-50 degrees latitude. I was not able to enter a single datapoint from Lisa or Karl from last year.
Regards,
Nancy
Good News Nanny!!
The developer is very responsive.
It DOES work with OS version 4.1 .....AND..... he is going to work on additional features by trying to contact the folks over at:

This is good news! I like the program, it has a nice clean look to it. It was a bit time consuming to enter all of the points for Jeanne, but that is only an issue when adding past storms. Since it only holds 12 storms, and the map is limited, I doubt I'll enter any other old ones.
One thing I really liked is the drop-down list for 5 am, 11 am, 5 pm & 11 pm. What a time saver. It limits the manual entries to those rare 2/8/2/8 data points.
Enjoy!
