"The new device will be available starting Wednesday and will cost $399. The line will continue to stress multimedia capabilities by including a built-in digital audio player and speaker, but it also comes with twice the memory, 32MB, of the previous Tungsten T model. The device will use Texas Instruments' 144MHz OMAP1510 processor and version 5.2 of the Palm operating system. The Tungsten T2 will come with a color screen that has a resolution of 320 pixels by 320 pixels as well as integrated Bluetooth technology--which will allow the device to connect to other portable devices, such as phones and notebooks."

Here's my two cents worth....

Looks like the T2 only has double the memory and OS 5.2 with bug fixes us T1 owners should have received in the first place.

This is what irks me about Palm - they expect me to buy the new model with minimal improvements and include the bug fixes (and possibly new bugs) for $399

Is it just me or am I being overly critical here?

this sounds like the M505 to M515 all over again!

I really hope to see in a near future an update of our OS for us, TT1 owners.

Anybody knows the amount of ROM in this new TT2 ? if it's the same as TT1, nothing can block an update, except Palm itself.

If so, i should consider never buy a Palm again.

The T2 has 8MB of Flash memory where as the T1 only has 4MB (The US version). It is possible that OS 5.2 will not fit into the 4MB flash memory of the T1. Only the future will tell.

i had a quick look at graffiti 2, is writing in the middle of the silkscreen the only way to write capital letters?

i wonder if newpen & graffiti anywhere will be able to incorporate this!

Regarding the difference in flash memory and OS -- Doesn't the Zire have the same flash memory as T1? The Zire runs OS 5.2.1. Here's hoping Palm will supply upgrade....

@azbearoh :
if Zire71 has the same amount of flash ram as TT1 and Palm never releases an OS update, it will be for me a really negative decision.
Is anyone at Palm is so stupid to think people owning a TT1 will spend about 400$ just for some small (yes, they are small for me) upgrades ...

I hope clever people exist at Palm inc (it 's a kind of prayer :) ) ... (please please please ...)

The worst for me is that my TT (a french version) has enough flash ram (8Mo) to get an update ...

Life is so hard sometimes :)

But the everyone elses T1 has 8Mb...the extra ( ie NOT english) language thing! I hate to say this but sometimes a more cosmopolitan, less parochial outlook has real advantages in unsuspected areas...

Palm are a US company. If a US T1 does have less flash than an International T1 preventing upgrades, would they be mean to the rest of of us by not releasing an OS5.2 upgrade for T1 so as to not annoy existing US customers?

Zire 71 have indeed "4MB of masked ROM and 16MB of SDRAM" (copied from the Palm website) like a TT (except the fact that TT has a flashable rom instead of this 'masked rom').

If a PalmOS 5.2.1 version fits in this 4MB ROM I am sure the same version compiled for a TT can also fit in our ROM.

So, we can expect an upgrade :)

Be confident :)
