I recently went from Palm to PPC. Bought a 2215 and went from hardwire home network to wireless. Everything went flawlessly (even the PPC Wi-Fi (CF card)) the first time around. Ok…maybe a little tweaking. The only problem I have is Outlook!. I hate it, I don’t want it but it looks like I almost have to use it. I have been using Eudora for years and like it a lot. But I can’t seem to sync with it to the pocket unit. Can it be done?
After much frustration I decided that I may have to stick with Outlook. I was able to import my Eudora mailboxes but I can’t import my large address book. It has an option to do so but won’t work. Can this be done?
Ultimately, I ask of any of you to suggest alternatives. I would like to stay with Eudora but will change if I have to, but I really don’t want to end up with Outlook and have to type in my whole address book.
Thanks in advance and I really appreciate all the posts here. Most educational.

I know, I know, I'm new to these boards but have learned that versions are needed: XP, Eudora 5.2.0.9, Office (Outlook)2002 Pro, PPC 2003. Did I forget anything?

I'm not really sure what other options are available aside from Outlook, but I'm thinking you're right because as far as I can tell, the PPC only supports synchronization with Outlook. However, if you HAD all of your contacts stored on your Palm Pilot before, you should still be able to transfer them all. I went from a Palm M505 to an Ipaq 3835, and using the insluded software was able to beam all of that stuff over to the Ipaq.
BUT, that doesn't really help you beyond that if you aren't really sold on the use of Outlook which is kindof clunky and has WAY more options than the average Joe needs or even wants to see when he opens his email inbox. I guess it would be alright if Microsoft would develop a "home user" edition of Outlook for those of us that use these handhelds and don't work in an office or have need/access to a big company email server that Outlook was apparently designed for.

You're right...for the average Joe, Outlook has too many options. However, I have used Eudora and now use Outlook (I switched to Outlook before my IPAQ) and I like Outlook MUCH better than Eudora.
Give it a week or so and see if you get used to it.
In terms of you address book, thats a tough one. What about this....try exporting the address book into a file that Excel can read. Then export from Excel into Outlook......it's a thought
I haven't used the full functions of Outlook for years, having been a Palm user. I've used ACT! to manage most of my professional work, and recently tried to move to a PPC. After about a week of trying to configure Outlook, I spent the next week looking for alternatives.
I found none, and I'm so tired of messing with Outlook's quirks, I'm dumping the PPC and going back to Palm.
I'm amazed that as good as Microsoft has made most of their other products, that Outlook is such a dog.

No other options is an amazing concept. That's why I didn't buy a Mac. Long live Microsoft !?
My contacts are in Eudora and you've got me thinking maybe I can get them into the old Palm and then Outlook. I agree, Outlook has no place in the home. Thanks.

Before I bought the 2215 I REALLY looked at what I thought were all the things involved in the hardware and software. I guess I missed this one thing. I'm stuck with Outlook or I'm selling like you. I almost bought the Clie NX80V. NICE screen!.
Thanks.

I agree, Eudora is a little toyish, but it works for me. I would switch to something else but I don't really want it to be Outlook. We used Outlook for years at work and I got sick of it. We now use Lotus Notes. I tried the Excel thing once and I think it would probably work but I have to assign every field to a field in Outlook one by one. I thought that would take longer than just re-typing all the info into Outlook directly. Thanks.

If you want to synchronize with other PIMs instead of Outlook, you should try using Intellisync. It supports many PIMs.

I'm going to a 2215 so I can sync better with outlook. Too much trouble with my clie, outlook, palm desktop, pocketmirror, and yahoo calendar. I'd love to get my outlook calendar available on the internet and limit access. Why is this so hard to find? Sorry to hijack. Email with an answer or just ignore, I'm ranting. I know it can be done, just don't know how and MS has nothing in help files.

I guess cross platforms are a pain. That's why I switched from Palm to PC. Besides more memory, etc.
I have been able to import several things to 'My Yahoo' page like IE Favorites and it has a calender. I wonder if that could import fields too? That would give you limited access also.
