Hi,
I have an E-115 Rom for sale. I bought it to upgrade my E-105, but it didn't work because I seem to have an 'old' model.
If anyone is interested drop me an email. I'd like about $50 for it.
By the way, I'm living in The Netherlands, so if you are interested please think about payment and delivery.
Best regards,
Ronald

Yes you do. It is really very simple.
As long as you are not 10 thumb variety all you need is good pair of Phillips head #0 & #1 Jewellers screw drivers -- Stanley USA recommended - & a pair of blunt nosed tweezers.
You could do it in under 5 minutes & put it back together.
I have given a link to the site with step by step procedure illustrated by excellent photographs.

Hi all,
isn't the device's serial # sufficient to find out if an upgrade is possible?
The serial # on my device is J532EAG-2AB02-019408, which is AFAIK one of the newer production series.

P.S. I have an E-105 ;-)

To the best of my knowledge & information available to me the first set J532EAG indicates it is a German version.
The middle - 2AB02 - indicates it is an intermediate production model.
To be absolutely sure I suggest you take it apart & check for the CPU id. It MUST be "4121A". You don't need anything more than a + head jeweller's screwdriver & a pair of narrow & blunt tipped
tweezers.
Hope this helps.

the rom will only work if your middle serial no. is 2Bxxx or later. It won't work with 2Axxx. That being said, I have a 2b model that I'm interested in buying the rom if it hasn't been sold. Email me
Thanks!

The middle serial number on my E-100 is 2CB9C:D, however, my CPU is VR4121, not VR4121A:eek:.
So, where does that leave me?
Will it work, or won't it?
Anyone know for sure ?
Thanks.

When & where did you buy the device ? New or refurbished ?
If the middle serial numbers are 2CB9C it should very definitely have had a VR4121A cpu.
Just like a reader from Israel got gypped into buying a supposedly refurbished E-105 with only 16 mb of ram & 2 unpopulated locations for the balance 16 MB ram.
Since you have already handled the device you know how easy it is to remove & switch the back without leaving any tell tell evidence.
Hope this helps.

Pradip, I bought it NEW from Staples, here in the US.
I bought it when they were being sharply discounted because the model was being discontinued, because the Pocket PC's were just coming out.
It was definitely "new", however.
I'm sorry, but I was extremely careful to document the markings on the CPU, and RAM chips.
The CPU reads:
NEC JAPAN
D30121F1
VR4121 (No "A")
9942M3006
The RAM chips (2 covered with a plastic shield, with two unpopulated spaces below):
SEC KOREA 940
KM416V4004BC-L6
UWH031AB
And lastly, my entire serial number:
J530AAU-2CB9C-010789
So, are you saying that given that the above is true, my E-100 will not accept the E-115's daughterboard, or that you can't be sure it will?
Thanks.

I tried to reply to your direct email. Your host refused to accept the mail. I don't know what is wrong.
Give me a day to check something. In the mean time if you have another email address let me have it.

I've found a few sources for the ROM board, ranging in price from $45 to $75 US.
Now, the only question is whether it would work with my CPU or not.
Hmmmmm.

Hi @all,
just to let you know - the question whether the upgrade will work ist definitely NOT a question of serial #'s. The serial # on my device is J532EAG-2AB02-019408, and the upgrade worked perfectly fine. It even was a change in languages: E-105G (German version) ---> E-115 (English version).

Which version was your CPU though:
Was it VR4121A or VR4121?
It's been suggested that that's the key to knowing ahead of time if it will be accepted or not.

I had made it quite clear that my experience was with strictly with the English version & not any other language. Perhaps with the Casio used a different numbering system for the Italian, German & Spanish versions as compared to the English ones.
I too would like to know the CPU ID ( which to the best of my knowledge & experience would be a "VR4121A" ) of the device you have successfully upgraded.
I would also like to inform you all that I have made a fresh quantity of the rom available in US.
If interested please contact me directly for details.

Hi @all who'd like to know:
Fortunately, the CPU in my device is a VR4121A. :D
So it all works flawlessly...

Hey There,
Last year I bought a E-105 on a trip to the Canary's, unfortunately it's in Spanish (Im from Belgium and don't speak a word Spanish)
The person from the shop told me that it was in english.... I'll never buy anything again in another country!!
Anyway, I recently found out about this ROM upgrade to CE3.0
My model: E-105S (Spanish ...)
Serial: J536EAE-2AB02-000950
I just pulled it apart, and the CPU has "VR4121A" on it... so am I right that this is the one that can be upgraded ???
If so, where can I get such a ROM upgrade daughter-board somewhere in Belgium/Netherlands/UK...
Thanks!!

Yes it is very definitely upgradeable.
What part of Belgium are you in & How much of a hurry are you in ? Please contact me directly.
I could make it available to you from Antwerp around end of February when my sister returns to that city. Please visit my site at http://business.vsnl.com/anushatech/index.htm
If you wanted it earlier it would cost more to cover international courier charges.

My Serial Number is J530EAU-2BB9C-015349. After opening it up, the CPU ID is VR4121, not VR4121A. So the whole serial number thing seems out of whack. I bought mine from a retail electronics store a while back. Upgradable or not? (This is a US model)

@Jafar:
I'm afraid not, since the CPU in your device is a VR4121, not a VR4121A.

Are these upgrades for the E-100 still available? Wher and for how much? Do they switch the OS to Pocket PC rather the just Win CE?
Thanks
pmshah
02-12-2003, 08:38 PM
Yes they are still available.
You get Win CE 3.0 which is PocketPC, although not 2000 nor 2002 both of which have USB support in hardware.
Please contact me directly at my email address.
