meaning that they have started sending the units now...
i wish i could get it b4 this wknd...hopefully...hehehe...

Best buy told me that they will have them this week here! (Indiana). I already sold my NR70V on e-bay for 499.00 3 weeks ago (using old Palm V til then).

Mine arrive this evening :D , along with the accessories (which were shipped, interestingly, from Ontario Canada via UPS even though they were on the same order.
It's still sitting in the cradle charging, but some initial thoughts:
The case is not smooth as I expected, but rather coarse, which makes it easy to hold and much more secure feeling, though very different for high-tech.
The thickness is the same as my Palm Vx, except at the card-end, which is almost twice as thick, but not too big a deal. The length is not quite an inch longer, but it's not quite as wide.
The weight is about the same as my Palm without the cards. I'll post more when it's charged and I've had a chance to play with it.

Well, I've been playing with this off and on, and my initial reaction is: "Wow ... this is NOT your Daddy's Palm Pilot!" :D
-------------------
First, the negatives:
1) I suspect the rough exterior will easily collect dirt, grime, etc. more easily than the old smoother PDA's that have been out for a while.
2) The launcher interface has taken a little getting used to. I haven't found much in the way of a tutorial yet, although the clie indicates one is installed. If I can find it, that may alleviate some of the mysteries.
3) There are times when the grafitti window is available, and times when it isn't. The times that it isn't, I seem to have to fall back on using the built-in keyboard, unless there is some trick I have yet to find (which wouldn't surprise me).
4) Tiny icons ... at over 40 years old, my eyes are not what they once were. I'm gonna have to start carrying my reading glasses with me I think.
5) Gray text on white background. There needs to be more contrast between the text and the background to make it more comfortable for me to read.
6) I loaded the MS Import tool on my Sony Vaio PC, which has a memory stick slot, and tried to use it to load some MP3's onto the 128 meg MS I bought with the unit. Unfortunately, it says it can't find the memory stick. I re-formatted it just in case, and it still can't find it. I tried to work around it by dragging and dropping the MP3's to the MS which worked fine, but with the MS in the Clie, the Audio Player can't find any MP3's on the stick, even though I can see them in the File Manager (or whatever it is they call it).
7) So, because of this, I can't play MP3's (yet).
8) Not enough memory ... the CD they provide has so much stuff, it won't all fit in the clie! Or maybe that's a positive ... anyway, it would be nice to be able to load it all, and still have room for media. Perhaps they will annouce a new model in November that has 64 megs of memory, and I'll be the one kicking myself ... :D
9) The WiFi card seems to be a little tricky to configure. I thought I had it configured last night, but couldn't get anything to come up on the browser. It's gonna take a little more work I guess. A "ping" utility would have been nice.
10) Battery life is way shorter than with my Palm. I'm going to have to get used to dropping it in the cradle more often than I am used to.
11) There is no complaint # 11 ...
-------------------
Now for the positives:
1) Beautiful screen. Amazingly sharp and clear, and I can actually read the text easier than with my old Palm Vx. Pictures look great too.
2) Clever interface. At first I was put off by the launcher, but the more I use it, the more get used to it.
3) Stylus comes apart revealing a pin that can be used to reset the unit. With my Palm, I always had to carry around a paper clip, for the occasional freeze up.
4) It will play MP3's ... I'm sure of it, even though I haven't figured it out yet.
5) It will play Movies ... I'm sure of it, even though I haven't figured it out yet.
6) It will surf the web wirelessly ... I'm sure of it ... well you know the rest.
7) It will take Pictures ... I actually did this for the first time, when demo'ing for a friend. It was very easy!
8) Sync's WAY faster than my old Palm, which was also connected via USB.
9) I haven't run into any compatibility problems, although I haven't yet loaded all my old apps, but the few I have work great. I don't actually have much in the way of 3rd party apps, so perhaps I'm not a good basis for comparison on this point.
10) It's way faster than my old Palm ... obviously with a 200 mhz processor, it's going to leave the Palm Vx in the dust.
11) I'm sure there will be more to come, but this is a start.
------------------------
Even though it looks like I have just as many complaints as positives, the positives way outweigh the negatives, particularly compared to my battle-scarred Palm Vx.
I'll post more when I have had more time to play with it. Unfortunately, my work gets in the way of my life ...

I have my new Sony Clie NX70 and its awesome! I don't agree with the negatives that another gentleman posted. However I had an NRV70 and he came from the "palm hardware". Its does everything I imagined it would and more! Palm OS 5 is great! I will have to play with it more to get a feel for what I will like best about this new unit. I won't buy wireless add on until the local retailer had one (easy take back if I don't like it!). So far it looks like the best PDA on the market. HP Ipaq is not even a contender.

I must confess that a number of my negatives were an indirect result of my age ... I am growing more and more farsighted as the years go by, and I guess this past year I have been noticing this more and more.
A plus though ... I did finally figure out how to get it to play MP3's, and I am loving it! :D I switched to a different headset since those buds began to irritate my ears after long hours of listening to music (probably because I'm becoming an old fart). The solution was to move the files from the directory I had dropped them into (pretty much at random), and into some sort of "album" directory I found on the memory stick. Voila, Audio Player finds MP3's to play. I really enjoy the shuffle feature, but when using it to listen to music while it was in it's cradle last night, I found myself wishing I had bought the cradle with the built-in speaker, as the little built in piezo speaker wasn't powerful enough to overcome the noise of the two workstations I have at my desk, not to mention lacking a full range.
Everybody ooh's and aahh's over it, and I am loving the attention, which will probably last about 1 week. :p
Now, if only it had a bluetooth enabled headset, so I didn't have to deal with wires anymore! :)

BTW, I almost forgot to mention, I figured out how to get the grafitti area up for entering text ... and I noticed a cool little "soft keypad" (no, not the one built into the base!), that is accessible from the grafitti area. It's just under the search button when the grafitti area is enabled.
I still haven't gotten the wifi to work yet, but I've been having so much fun with it, that I haven't gotten around to trying to figure it out yet.

Not to cause any insult or embarrasment to you bjorn but just for general info.
The stylus on just about all the sony's come apart to produce a reset pin. Also the nr70v has the graffitti software keyboaed under the find icon as well. Again I'm am not wishing to cause embarrasment or resentment but just to inform.
Also (this may be jealousy talking since I DONT have an nx yet) the nr70v does lots of stuff too, like movies and stuff. Just because it is last months model doesnt mean its not good enough :( . BTW this is just a joke, im actually waiting for the new model in december before i give up my nr70v. Thanks for the info guys, but its just not worth another $500 when I already have the 70v, but I do plan to get the dec model hehe:D .

I cant confirm anything yet but I have heard rumors flying around in the techworld that sony plans to release a new model at the end of the year. Also sony has shown a trend of one model of clie released every month so I would say the rumors could be valid. Also I cant ward off temtation so I am buying a nx70v today

Sony is insane. They crank out a new unit every month. I would be suprised if they don't have one or 2 more by the end of the year(I think the nx70v will still be head honcho, I doubt the next unit will be quite as fancy).

Just guessing, did anyone think about this. Sony might be coming out with a new T series that runs 5.0 os. They've dropped the price, and made a new colour available a new version could be around the corner. Just a thought..;)

Yeah, I think the next couple units they come out with will be somewhat like the t series. Small, no camera, more affordable, and yet still good. They may even still run 4.1. You never know...

I am new to Sony PDA's. I got a NR70 a couple of weeks ago and used for a week, then returned it since I liked it but wanted the NX.
I order mine from Sony and I got it on Oct 31st. So far it is an impresive unit.
A couple of issues with some software I had in my previous PDA (Handera 330...very good unit also). Quickoffice does not work (it launches but the fonts are not readable). Avantgo does not work either...while it launches it crashes while trying to set up channels via mobile link...???
The other software that does not work is Bugme; it also crashes the system. Finally, I have a Bible reader by Olive Tree, it also crashes the system.
While the unit is a great unit, well made, great screen, nice add-ons...etc...the fact that Palm OS 5.0 is so new will take a few weeks/months for patches to address OS issues.

I just ordered my gunmetal coloured nx70v and it should get here within the week.
Carlos C, you said that nx70v does not work with the quickoffice software? Hopefully they will come out with a patch soon. Handmark/wordsmithpro has already made a patch for os5.

rumor is a T series device with virtual graffiti and no buttons.

Sorry I haven't been able to respond to posts sooner, but I got slammed with a heavy work load at work, and still haven't fully caught up.
No offense taken. The positives I listed that were so obvious were meant to be considered from my experiences as a newbie to the Clie, and as coming from a long time Palm Vx user.
This is a strange and beautiful new world I have discovered, and while it isn't quite perfect (as someone mentioned above, AvantGo doesn't work quite right --- okay for some channels, crashes on others), I am still in a state of wonder and amazement. :D

I used to own the NR70V and I now own the NX70V.
There is no doubt that the improvements are worth it. Besides the obvious improvements (processor speed, camera resolution, video capabilities, audio recorder, zoom feature on camera, added memory, improved speaker, card slot, widescreen playback, etc) some of the nicest improvements are in the operation of the unit. For example, being able to turn on and off the unit without opening the door. Big plus. Now I can activate the camera and voice recorder right from the holster.
I don't understand that huge list of "disadvantages", but some of those I see as advantages. However, maybe some users are not as high tech.
Sony comes out with a new "top" model about every 5 or 6 months, not one month. I know, I HAVE to have it! LOL.
They might come out with lower models, but who buys those and who really cares? LOL
I have my Bluetooth memory stick on order ... <tapping foot>
