Finally I have ordered my NX70V in Gun Metal color from Sony Style. According to Sony it will be available on or after Nov. 6 (a little more to live with my Handspring prism):)
Since my nature of Job forces me to travel to various places. In some places I don't have access to Wi Fi, and solely depend on Telecommunication systems. With my Handspring I bought Xircom Modem which fits into the Springboard slot and allow me to access my e-mail and brows the internet through normal ISPs.
I am wondering if anybody got across modem for NX70V, since I going to be using it almost everywhere I used to use my Handspring?
Thanks for the advise.:(

If you have a notebook, you might want to get the Bluetooth Memory stick and use the MODEM in your notebook.

Thanks YKZ_Pilot for your advise, I will sure try this.
What I was thinking about is Flash Card slot Modem. I have found on at www.zonet.com.tw which works with both Palm OS devices as well Pocket PC devices. But I am not sure if it will work with the slot in NX70V and if it supported by Palm OS 5.
I am thinking about getting one for trial.

Can you tell us if you had any luck with the Flash card modem? I'm trying to find a wireless e-mail solution for the Sony NX and the wireless lan card isn't reliable enough (access) when traveling for business. Thanks!

sony in thier wisdom removed the bit of software that supports SOME (not all) CF modems from the NX's sold in America. on the plus side, some nice people are translating the japanese version to english.
you can check it out here:

Thanks very much! I found ClieSource, but it would have taken a long time to find that thread. It's over my head (I'm a user not a programer), but there certainly seem to be quite a few people interested in the translation - and it seems they're close! I'll keep up with their work. Who knows, maybe Sony will realize they're missing something here and put the software back into the US version (ha ha). What about buying a converted Japanese version.....nah too much translation! Without getting into any hacks or patches in order to use products that the NX70 was not designed to work with, you do have 2 choices from Sony that are available and will not void your warranty:
1) Sony wireless LAN card (PEGA-WL100)
2) Sony Bluetooth memory stick (PEGA-MSB1)
However, if communications through e-mail is that critical for you to have to send and receive from anywhere, you probably should be looking into something along the lines of a picturebook. Full e-mail and computing capabilities that you can carry in your pocket. The Clie's e-mail capabilities are limited. If you are using strictly text messaging, then you could use a cell phone.
If I decide to go wireless around the house I will go with Bluetooth for security reasons. (plus the 7 security cameras around my home are all 2.4 Gz and interfere).
However, I don't see that happening. The best part of the PEO is that nobody can bother me on it. That's all I need is more spamming and interruptions no matter where I go! LOL

the software i mentioned above is not a hack or a patch, it is made by sony for the nx60/70. it just was not included in the US version so someone is translating the Japanese version. Using it will not void your warranty.

I received an e-mail today from Palm announcing that their new Tungsten W model will come standard with wireless e-mail after the first of '03 (similar to the i705 using the Palm.net service). From what I've seen Sony's hardware is still better so I made Many calls to reach someone in the marketing dept at Sony (in San Diego). Not only won't they say what new features are coming, but it seems that they don't even know until it's ready for release. Perhaps the Japanese do all the changes to make an English / US version and then let them know what's coming. Just thouht others would like to know. Scott

Apparently there are no Modems available in US for Clie NX series Handheld.
There is a group in Cliesource talking about Princeton Modem available at www.shop.brando.com.hk which comes with a Japanese version of CF utility.
This utility got drivers for more than one Modem brand. The bad part of it, the accompanied software is in Japanese language. One gentleman at Cliesource had taken the effort to translate the he utility to English and currently different thread members are testing it.
Information about the above is available at the following thread:

As far the modem requirement, as a Communication professional I need to travel to various sites and never sure to find a wireless connection. At the same time some Organizations I serve wont let me access their wireless networks to send and receive message due to security reasons.
So the best solution is to have an analogue modem with a telephone line to keep connected to my office.

Yes, I too need to retrieve e-mails while travelling, and also have the problem of getting access to networks depending on the client.
I also have the need to read large attachments on a regular basis within these e-mails. That is why the wireless and analog MODEM capabilities on the picturebook are so important. You get a complete system in a size that fits in your pocket.
Windows XP, 30 Gig DASD, firewire, USB, memory stick, Ethernet, PC Card, camera, v.90 MODEM, etc. All in your pocket.
Personally very few of the e-mails I need access to are of the limited nature where they can be accessed on a PEO. If you can use a PEO for your e-mail needs then you are certainly fortunate.

Hi Pelaca
Thanks for the reply and the associated thread, and many thanks for translating CF Utilities from Japanese to English.
I am following the related thread on Cliesource under ''tamamoma'' (GadgetMan is already taken by somebody else).
The information related to available modems, along with the translated CF utility made my life easier.
I was just about to order the modem from Brando, but I think I have to be patient and look at other sources mentioned in the thread in your message.
Regards
GadgetMan :)

GadgetMan,
I have your solution. The only truly universal data port on all Palm OS devices is the Infrared port. Many professionals carry an IRDA travel modem, which plugs into a phone jack and sends the signal to your Palm's IRDA port. SIMPLE!
Yes, it is fairly slow, but if e-mail is esential, this will do the trick. The best part is that it can be used with your prism now, NX later and any Palm after that!
The only two models I'm familiar with are the out of production Psion Travel Modem, which you can find for around $100 used online or, there is a brand listed at the bottom of the ClieSource main page, whic i think is from "JJJ" co. Do a simple search for IRDA modems and that company will pop up. theirs is on the shelves and is a little more, but has full tech support. (if anyone knows it, post the link)
Good Luck!
