I am a new clie user. How do i download music into audio player without buying the mg memory stick? I have the regular memory stick (purple). Using SonicStage, I managed to convert songs from audio cd into windows media audio format and making a connection between clie and computer. However, when i tried to transfer the file from music drive to memory stick, it seems to have no option except to convert it to atrac3 format. Thank you.

I'm not sure that the Clie will recognize Windows Media files. They need to be in MP3 format. The purple memory sticks work fine for music, but I think it has to be in MP3 format.

I have successfully loaded 160k encoded MP3's onto the purple MS (into Palm/Programs/MSAUDIO), and enjoyed the awesome clarity and quality that comes with it.
Then, I thought, hey, wouldn't it be cool to have even MORE music available, even though it means sacrificing some quality? Seeing as I take the bus to and from work, which is when I would be most likely listening, quality isn't that big a need.
I tried to convert my 160k MP3's into 32k MP3's using MusicMatch, and suddenly the Clie didn't want to play them anymore. So, I tried ripping them directly to 32k MP3's and it STILL didn't want to play them anymore ... so I tried using Windows Media Player at 64k, and STILL no luck. The darn thing complains that either the files are corrupt, that the MS is write-protected, or does not support copyrite control. What's up with that?

I use the blue sticks only for my MP3s. The Sony MP3 transfering software uses piracy protection that only works with the Magic Gate sticks. I don't pirate, but I refuse to pay more for the MG sticks because there are so many thieves out there who think their stealing of software and songs do not hurt anyone. (not to mention the obvious ethical sleeziness)
You cannot use the Sony software with the blue sticks. However, you can simply drag and drop the MP3s from you computer to the Clie and play them back without a problem.
Thank you for everyone's answer. Which software do you recommend to convert my regular audio CD music into mp3?

I use a program called Cakewalk PYRO. I love it, easy to use.

I like MusicMatch -- it's a free download, and has some great features.
BTW, I did a little more experimenting, and when ripping mp3's to disk, encoding at anything less than 96k and the NX complains about corruption/security/etc. However, 96k and up seem to work fine. As far as I can tell, sample rate changes don't seem to affect it.
Good luck!
