I am trying to use my ATT GPRS Nokia 6310i as a modem for the NX70, and followed all the settings on Nokia's manual, and attempted to "connect" to the cell, with no luck at all. I use the same cell with great success through blue tooth to connect to my Powerbook. I am using IR with the Clie, but that shouldn't matter. It cannot establish a connection at all. I went to Palm's site to down load a modem driver PRC file, and couldn't find the exact one, but one close. I hot synced and presumably this driver is on the Clie, though I cannot see it on the file list. The "Connection" preferences do not bring up a Phone menu like the instructions say, and that is where you presumably match the modem PRC to the phone.
Ideas?

Well, the NX's IR is actually in a different placement and aims in a different direction. Essentially to beam you almost have to hold the Clie in a 90 degree position for it to work.

Actually, that wasn't the problem at all. I could beam business cards back and forth between the two, no problem. I tried using a Sony-Ericsson t68i that I was about to return, and guess what: The IR modem worked just fine, and the Clie NX got right on line! I guess there is an incompatibility between the Nokia phone and the Clie, presumably in the implimation of IR. Perhaps bluetooth would work, but for now I'm just going to keep the T68i and return the Nokia. Originally I thought the Nokia worked better as a phone, but that really isn't true either. Being a Mac user, the T68i also allows me to syncronize the phone and the PC, which wasn't possible with the Nokia.
Interesting about the IR, yes?

I noticed something similar using T-Mobile and various combinations of Nokia 8290, Motorola p280, Visor Deluxe, and Palm m125. The m125 can go online using either phone, but the Visor needs the Nokia, and I'm using the same init string and other info in both PDAs. Weird. (The Visor will start to dial up the Motorola and then it hangs up. The p280 modem might be just a little finickier than the 8290's.)

A friend of mine is having the same problem with his NX when trying to connect to his Nokia 6510.
I already referred him to this thread.
