I let my T615c completely run down on the battery and all my installed applications were lost. Is this normal. I use Teal Script and sync with Franklin Planner Plus. Will this happen every time or is there a way to a\make the applications stay like the default items?

Yes, this is normal - you'll lose all data including applications you've added because when you lose power, the RAM (volatile) memory is erased. The default apps like Datebook, etc. are on the ROM (nonvolatile) memory which is not erased when you lose power.

Is there a solution to this. Can I back-up apps to the memory stick ec?

I'm not sure... I THINK you can, but I haven't really messed with the MS. My Clie is almost always fully charged, so fortunately I haven't run into the same problem. Do a search on this topic on this board as well as these two; I'm sure this topic has been covered before:

Ben
Download BackupBuddyVFS (http://www.bluenomad.com/bbvfs/prod_bbvfs_details.html) , a free program from Blue Nomad.

It will backup your entire Ram content to memory stick.

Next time your battery dies, or you have a hard reset, just launch BackupBuddyVFS (it will copy itself to the Memory Stick) and tap on "restore"...

ALL of your programs, databases, preferences, etc. will be restored in about three minutes!

There's also a paid version, which adds automatic backups (so you can configure it to perform a backup automatically at, say, 2am every night) and will allow you to encrypt your backup.

Great program, and very easy to use! (Saved my bacon several times)

I read this with interest as I experienced the same while on a trip; not using my Clie in the normal fashion. Not sure if the "on" got pushed accidently--or battery dies with three days of no use? I have not played with MS too much--is there a size you'd recommend for just this sort of application--or just get a 128? Thanks for imput.

Shelly,
Depends on what you want to do. Remember that good MP3 quality takes about 1MB per minute of music. Photos can be 50K or 100K, or otherwise...depends. I use a 4MB stick in my camera/camcorder and get 40 photos (a Sony PC-3).

On the losing apps problem, I think maybe there is a way also to tell hotsync to sync apps, so that when you get back to your computer, you can get reinstalled, BUT I AM NOT SURE, and would like to know myself...this is a real problem!
Any ideas?

Hiya Benkong2

I had a similar disaster on my T625 a couple of days ago. Thankfully, I didn't lose too much data as the Hotsync software restored most of the info when I synced to my PC.

However, there are certain files that don't seem to get backed up, so I will follow Josh's suggestion and download Backup Buddy for myself. I am also awaiting delivery of a 64mB stick from www.7dayshop.com who appear to be very reasonably priced for memory cards and sticks.

The thing that annoys me, is that the battery was completely dead, even though the night before the battery was 50% charge, and it had been switched off all day. I didn't have this problem with my Psion!

All the best. :)

Bluenomad.com also sells their excellent "BacKup Buddy" Software for the PC. It will guarantee that you have all your apps backup on the PC. You get the Back VFS free with BackupBuddy. Next time the SONY is blank you do a hot sync and Backup buddy will reinstall it all.

Since posting on this thread earlier, I found a utility called Filez (see www.nosleep.net), which has an option to backup ALL that is on your Palm (select view and edit files/set/backup on/yes).

If you are a normal user, you could do this and then forget about it.

When my Sony went dead this weekend, after hotsync I noticed nothing was missing, although I have not done a complete check.

For techies, well, we found this little app. is very very useful because of all the ways you can view files (by size, app., etc) which are otherwise invisible to the user using the standard Palm App/Info screen.
And the app. is open source! A job well done for these guys!

Be sure to put a copy of Filez on your memory stick so you can reload Filez and the rest of your files to RAM after a catastrophic lose.

Thanks guys for your help. I now have a copy of FileZ on my Clie! Just waiting for 7dayshop.com to deliver my stick, and I'm away.

Cheers! :)

Another saftey measure is to use SyncWizard (PalmGear.com) to make a complete backup of all RAM, and MS files in just a few minutes. I store mine once a week to a CD.
