I posted this before but I'll try again in the appropriate forum.
Will my 5mx only synch with the default contacts folder in Outlook 2000 on a W2K machine?
My wife and I share the PC and we have separate contacts folders which are subfolders of the default folder. This default folder is unused and has nothing in it.
Until I moved contacts from subfolder into the default folder the Psion wouldn't seem them. After synching I then moved them back again.
I see there is the facility for typing in the path to the contacts folder in the dialogue box, but where does this folder reside in W2K?
Further, how do I separate my contacts on the Psion. I tried installing ContactX but I couldn't get it to work?

I believe that Contacts sync only works with the default folder in Outlook, as does email sync, but as I don't use synchronization with Outlook in practice, someone with actual experience may be able to elaborate. I do have Outlook installed - I just don't use it!

I seem to remember being able to specify in PsiWin which Contacts folder to sunchronise with. Don't remember how I got there or whether it worked!

Hi,

I don't sync so I can't help you on that front beyond saying that I'm sure what you want to do is possible! I remember a similar previous posting, and the solution was something to do with setting up one sync item per folder, or something.

Regarding splitting your contacts on the Psion, I use DreamConnect from www.dreamspring.com (not free but really quite cheap) which allows you to define categories. Each contact can then be assigned to one or more of these categories, and you can very easily make it display only one category's contacts.

I don’t use two contacts-folders, but I think synchronising both should be possible by setting multiple synchronisationtasks. Enter the appropriate path and filenames by unticking the ‘use default contacts box’ in the applications tab (synchronisation options).
You can find the folder path, by looking at the folder list in Outlook (select folder list from the vieuw menu).

As for separating your contacts, I have no idea, but I read somewhere that if you specify a non existent Psion datafile, the synchroniser will create a new one. Therefore you need to select the option synchronise a datafile. But it is not clear to me if that works out fine if you already have such a datafile.

Hello Revhead,

To synchronize with an Outlook Contacts folder other than the default, enter the path to the folder, as it appears in Outlook (this has nothing to do with any file location on your computer), in the Applications tab of the Synchronization Options dialogue box. It will appear something like "Personal Folders\My Contacts Folder."

It is a good idea to enter the path to the Contacts folder even if you are using the default Outlook Contacts Folder.

That said, I do not think that you want to synchronize to multiple Outlook Contacts folders if you are using the Contacts application on your 5mx. There is only one contacts database available on the 5mx so what you will be doing when synchronizing with multiple Outlook folders is to make all the folders contain the same contacts.

There are third party programs out there that allow creating folders for the 5mx Contacts app and there are others that allow categorization. None of these third party additions has any effect on synchronization, i.e. you can not use a third party program that divides your 5mx contacts into two folders and the synchronize one folder differently than the other. These third party applications still use the same "single" contacts database on your 5mx and as far as PsiWin is concerned, all contacts (regardless of how they are organized in a third party solution) are part of one database and only that one database is effected by synchronization.

One could use the 5mx Data application and set up multiple synchronization routines to multiple Outlook Folders. That is the only way I could imagine it would work.

Synchronizing multiple Agendas is a whole other story ;)
