Don Congrats Don, hope you can find some time to share soon. Who did you order from?:) demiller9 07-26-2003, 03:09 PM I ordered the iQue from TVNAV on January 9th, the day after it was announced. When the first shipments came in on Friday, I decided I couldn't wait till Tuesday, so I paid extra for the overnight shipping with Saturday delivery. This way I'll get some free time to read the manuals, and try it all out. The unit is almost exactly the same size as the Handspring Visor Prism that I've been using for a couple of years now. The iQue is tapered, slightly thicker at the top then the bottom. The screen resolution is very nice - the lettering is very crisp and easy to read. The map scrolls by dragging the stylus and the response is instantaneous for short movements. The computer has to reload data to fill in when you move too far, and the time to do that depends upon the zoom scale. It takes just a small fraction of a second to load the data from the external SD source for zooms that I normally use while driving, a larger portion of a second for a 'city-wide' zoom setting. The overall feeling is very good, very responsive. I haven't looked at very many of the apps yet, nor even gone outside to actually turn on the GPS function. I'll report more in a few hours. The unit comes with a printed Que Applications Guide and a pdf version of the iQue Operating Instructions (129 pp). The charger for the cradle looks like its probably the same one they sell as a travel charger - it has the plug that mates with the iQue and the AC prongs fold flat. It runs from 100-240v / 50-60Hz. more soon... Don stevevo 07-26-2003, 04:10 PM Don is there any way you can post the pdf version of the operating instructions so the rest of us can look them over as Garmin hasn't posted them to the site yet. Probably Monday I am hoping. I ordered mine from TVNav on January 28 so hope to be getting mine soon. opusxcigars 07-26-2003, 07:36 PM How loud is the voice prompt? The AC adapter is universal or is it propriietary to Garmin unit? Like for the car charger. Did you get any accessories? demiller9 07-26-2003, 09:16 PM Stevevo - the pdf file is for standard palm os type operations, the printed book is the gps portion. I think that the gps part is probably what you would be interested in. (The pdf file is 5.24 MB too) opusxcigars - the voice prompt is moderate/loud. We shut the radio off to be sure to hear it and it was easy to hear on the freeway and standard streets. The auto adapter kit is supposed to have an additional (louder I think) speaker by the power plug. The AC adapter is worldwide voltage/frequency and the plug is a very small tube shaped plug, probably some standard. There are apparently two places the iQue can get external power from, first the separate jack and second the universal palm connector. The cradle feeds power through the UPC, I'm not sure which one the car adapter will use. I ordered two accessories, but neither one shipped yet. Don nagyg 07-26-2003, 09:35 PM Don, Congratulations! How long does it take to start up? Gerhard demiller9 07-26-2003, 11:38 PM The pda comes up in just a blink; for example if you press the phonebook button it powers up to the phonebook page the instant you press the button, ditto for the calendar button. The GPS functions are as quoted in the specs: from a warm start (which means the unit has current satellite data, has been off for less than a couple of hours) it is about 15 seconds. A cold start takes about 45 seconds to lock if you are out in the open and not moving. When you are moving the lock may take a couple of minutes because some satellites get momentarily obstructed and their data is not detected as rapidly. Don ALMS 07-27-2003, 01:29 AM Sounds like it was worth the wait. I was wondering if it runs Palm os 5.0 or 5.2? If it's 5.0 they could be using Sony's api's. If it's 5.2 then it's Palm's api's. Just need to know what software in 320x480 will run on this. demiller9 07-27-2003, 01:17 PM It is using Palm OS 5.2.1r1 Moose Man 07-27-2003, 10:11 PM This thing has to have some special tweaks because of the GPS unit - therefore yet another API for developers to check before releasing new apps. Glad to see it's 5.2 version. PDA Street
