Regards Si Fred_R 09-26-2002, 06:34 AM Might be worth checking the 'old' database. I am sure there was something about the C pen working and being Psion compatible? Fred wanman 09-26-2002, 06:57 AM I can vaguely remember the previous chat about scanner compatibility with the Psion 7 and Netbook and the answer was a big 'NO'. Even if you managed to frig a cable, you would need the drivers which no one has yet produced (to my knowledge). I did pick up a useful tip though when the topic came up. If you have a digital camera which uses cf/sm cards or the like, you can take a picture of the document/page and copy that across. It has worked for me the few times I have urgently needed to get an image of a doc to someone. Need a good camera though !! Regards Si I own a C-Pen and that works fine with a Psion as long as you use the free C-Beam software, that you can download fron their website. It is worthwhile installing that software even if you do not own a C-Pen as it adds standard IR file compatibility. "This software module is installed in a Psion Revo and MX5 palmtop. It extends the infrared communication (irOBEX) features in your Psion to allow for text files as well. After installation, you can beam addresses, calendar events and between your C-Pen and your Psion." http://www.cpen.com/Download/extra_applications/m6/psion The C-Pen is a small hand-held scanner with built-in OCR capabilities and transmits the recognised text via Infrared to your Psion, PC, etc. http://www.cpen.com Regards Peter Fred_R 09-27-2002, 03:58 AM Check this website for info on the C Pen and how to connect it via infrared port to Psions. http://www.datamind.co.uk/merchant/C_Pen_PDA.htm This is the nearest thing to a scanner I have seen for a Psion hope it helps Fred DanielV 10-04-2002, 08:47 PM Hi All, I have not tried any of these OCR portable scanners, but I understand these portable scanners have the same genric OCR technology problems of scanning, which is pretty common to all units. My question is, has anyone had experience with both the WisCom Quicklink and the Cpen units. Any comments on their respective system operation, translation times, general handling, etc. I understand PsiLoc has the software PlBeam which will interface with both units. On paper, the Cpen appears to be the better unit. I have a huge research requirement for scanning text (scanning short text ideas from all forms of publications), so do these units do the job. Any toy that can reduce the typing time into the netBook has got to be way cool. Thanks in advance. netBookBabe 10-05-2002, 11:45 AM Hi Daniel and everyone I have a Siemens Pocket Reader handheld scanner, recently acquired and not yet put through its paces properly. Seems to work pretty well for collecting short bursts of text and there is some 3rd party software that apparently does a good job at integrating with Psion - I have yet to try that. Away from my office for a few days, so bear with me - when I get back I will be exploring it further and will report some more. Julie PDA Street
