Here is a link to an informative article about Palm OS5 and memory (it explains why people have posted that 22 megs are available out of the 32 megs that comes on the iQue):

Since I will be a new Palm user, does anyone have a suggestion on Brand of SD card to use? I have seen on some forums here, different brands seem to be of differing quality.

Didn't Panasonic develop the SD card? I'm not sure but I thought I read that somewhere...of course I also read that if I buy the thighmaster, I will look like Suzanne Somers...which would be a big change since I'm a guy...but I am about the same age, so...?
Somebody else on this board mentioned that the SanDisk cards might not be the best. I currently have a HandEra and haven't bought a SD card yet (I have a 32 MB PNY CF card. I'm not sure what PNY stands for, but it was cheap! When I run the Card Info app in Palm OS 4.1beta (the HandEra 0410 build) it says the card is a Toshiba card. Go figure!
I have seen SD cards with transfer rates of 2 to 10 M/sec (I can't remember the exact units). I think the HandEra doesn't take advantage of faster cards, but I don't know. Other discussions on this forum indicate at least one or two who already have the iQue and who say their card access is very good.
So, I too am interested in a discussion of card brands, speeds, etc.

The SD card was jointly developed by Matsushita Electronic (best known for its Panasonic brand name products), SanDisk and Toshiba.
You would think that the company that partially was responsible for the development of the SD card, would know what they're doing.
When buying cards take into account that
SD cards of 128Mby and below are
MUCH SLOWER
than the larger cards.
Look at this page:

As of today the largest SD card is 512MB. Matsushita (better known for their Panasonic line) was working (or has been working) on a 1GB SD Card, but this was in development and they had a release date of 2004 (if I'm not mistaken)

Got my SanDisk 256MB card today and it is working very well. All files - maps, mp3, etc. - must be installed via Hotsync. I could not just copy it onto the card using my Toshiba laptop SD slot. The card needed to be formatted on the iQue. As my USB cradle does not work (I am waiting for a replacement from Garmin) I Hotsynched with Infrared, which literally took hours.

Does anyone know if the IBM Microdrive 1GB will fit in the iQue 3600?

No, the MicroDrive is compact flash form factor. The iQue uses Secure Digital cards, which are significantly smaller.
