I have had my m505 for 2 years now & its used on a daily basis.

Yesterday it developed a worrying fault.

When switching on, it is completely dead. No LED, no display, no beep - nothing.

I then do a soft re-set, it then powers up but the display is missing all text, just icons show. On a second re-set, all returns back to normal.

Battery symbol indicates fully charged, no new software has been added in weeks.

Anyone know of a possible cause / cure??

Should I be shopping for a T2?

Stephen

Stephen,
I just encountered the same problem, I have had my M515 for about a year and a half, and never had any problems. Suddenly this morning, I couldn't turn it on except by soft re-set. Now the Palm powered start up screen is flashing and if I hold down the power button it asks if I want to erase all data, and the backlight is staying on when I place the unit on the charger. I just told it to erase the data, and the unit is back to its starting configuration. I am running the HotSync and it appears to be restoring all my previous settings and data. I'll let you know if that takes care of the problem.

You may both be experiencing SUDS. Brought on by a static electric charge to the uiversal connector. If you have, or can borrow, a Torx 5 or 6 Screwdriver take the back off and disconnect the battery. Leave it off for 24 hours. Reconnect and see if life is better.
Doc

PS: Nokia phone repair shops use the Torx 5 and 6 screwdrivers. Some 500 series units use the 5 others the 6.

:( Well, all my attempts to rectify the problem were fruitless. Right now the only thing my M515 shows is the palm powered logo, regardless of whether it's on the charger or off. Dr. Mudd, I'lll try getting the Torx screwdriver and disconnect the battery. I'll let you know if that solves the problem.

Me too, I've had numerous problems recently and it's now a serious pain in the bum so I'll give anything a go.

I had the same symptoms, and wound up sending it in for repair twice. The first time my original was repaired and came back, the second time the service department told me they couldn't get it back to me in less than several weeks, would I take a repaired one instead of my original - i.e. do a swap? I agreed and have been trouble free ever since. I will note two things that may have contributed. First the problem started when I carried the Palm in a fleece jacket, and a Panasonic cell phone in the pocket was bonkers also. I took the battery out of the Panasonic and left it alone for two hours, then it worked fine. I suspect a static discharge, although the problem hasn't repeated.

You get static when the air is dry. Probably hasn't been very dry in your area lately. Best of luck in winter.

Hurrah, disconnecting my battery 'appears' to have solved months of hassle. So far it's been operating just fine over the past week whereas before you could pretty much guarantee that it'd need a least a soft reset once per day. Thanks everyone.
