Cannot connect e740

Hi, I'm trying to connect a 740 with my laptop using one of those USB cables instead of the cradle. The activesynch connection settings dialog finds it ok (and it appears in my explorer on the laptop) but then activesynch just sits there "connecting" and the pda says not connected. If I unplug and replug the USB the Activesynch connect icon goes to grey and if I plug back in it goes to green and "connecting" again. Have tried re-installing everything and various different start-up sequences as recommended by the help files and definitely have USB in settings on the pda. Is there anything I'm missing? Is it possible this cable doesn't work? Can't actually try the cradle as I am in another country and left at home thinking this lighter and easier to pack cable would work!! Sorry for length of post.

I don't think that the problem is in the cable. Try deleting all your partnetship in your PC AS.
