Has anyone tried using the infared on Z71 to infared stuff to a laptop? I've tried it a couple of times and the laptop recognises the palm's infared (establishes that another device is present) but it wouldn't receive anything that the Z71 sends.
Thanks

...it is possible to configure a HotSync via IR, but why? It's painfully slow and cannot match the connection stability of a direct hardwire line.
As far as the laptop receiving from the PDA, I'm not certain that the laptop will recognize the formats of the files coming fromm the PDA. Do laptops respond to .pdb's and .prc's and such?
What am I doing still awake?!

Hi Guys
I use a freeware utility called Palm Install to transfer apps I downloaded onto my work laptop to my Zire 71 as my cradle is permanently connected to my home desktop. It works very well over infrared.
All the best

The laptop should. I use a Mobile Action USB IR adapter to transfer stuff between Zire 71 and desktop, and the desktop receives all my Palm files exactly as they are sent.
As for the laptop not receiving anything from the Zire 71.....I wouldn't be surprised if it were a cellphone, but this... this is odd. I don't suppose your laptop would have anything like a "receive IR interface", much like a PDA's beam receive, or anything like that?

I am using the IR to sync with my laptop and it works very well. Have you read the 'readme'? You have to switch off a setting in the wireless control panel.
It does not want to seem to sync twice in a row though: when you try to do it a second time, it tells you that the IR is used by another device. I have found that it helps if you switch the zire off, wait until the IR indicator disappears, start the zire and immediately hotsync.

A little late perhaps, but: on Win2K select Settings/ControlPanel/Wireless Link
Select Image Transfer and deselect 'Use Wireless link to transfer...'
