Actually, I don't think Active Synch works with the Velo 1, you need HPC Explorer. I don't know the web site addy offhand but I have a link to it on my Velo web page (can get there through my main page, addy below). Also, the program is just plain quirky. I've set up synching with several computers now, including a laptop, and had trouble getting them to run every time. Once I unplugged and re-plugged it enough times to get it to work, it continued to synch with no problems; it's just the first synch that is difficult. What are you trying to synch? I use HPC Explorer to synch MS Schedule ver. 7.0, which isn't the best schedule/task manager in the world but it's the only one I know the Velo 1 will run and synch with. Maybe someone else here knows of alternatives and can suggest them.

Feel free to come back here with other questions, this may be the last Velo discussion board around!

I just got my new Velo 1 connected to my desktop (WinXP Pro). I generally followed the advice on the website in the previous post. Here are some notes on what was required for my install. YMMV.

Download H/PC 1.1 (do not install at this time)

The following sets up a network connection over a COM port:
Go to Control Panel, Network Connections,
New Connection Wizard, Set up Advanced connection,
Connect directly to another computer, choose correct COM port

Your guest account must be enabled:
Control Panel, Administration Tools, Computer Managment,
Local Users & Groups, Users, (enable Guest account)

Install H/PC 1.1:
Install H/PC 1.1, Select no to RAS prompt,
Select Connection to use (the one you just set up),
Ignore the error messages.

I've found I have to start H/PC Explorer and then dock the Velo. It works perfectly with Outlook 2002 as well.

Glad you were able to synch your Velo, Jeff! Do you mind if I add your experience to my web page? (With or without your name, your choice -- I believe in giving credit but some people don't like to have their names published.) I don't use Win XP but I think it helps users to have someone else's experience to follow.

Youcan use my notes if you want but I found a much better explanation than my own on the web this weekend. http://www.hpcfactor.com/support/cesd/c/0002.asp

I have been succesful in syncing H/PC explorer and my desktop machine at work but was unsuccesful with my laptop. I constantly get an error 628 (even with the serial cable unplugged) which leads me to believe H/PC Explorer is not seeing the serial port netroking connection that was set up.

For now I'll settle for the desktop sync. I've orderd a WinCe2.0 update ROM off Ebay and will see how/if that improves things. Most things I've discoverd on the web seem to be for 2.0 and above anyhow, sort of like 1.0 was just forgotten.
