I recenty purchased a refurbished SPH-I300 phone. Everything has been working great with it. But I bought a new battery and when I turned the phone off and switched to the new battery all of my programs disappeared. I experimented with the phone a little and found out that if the phone is off when I remove the battery then I lose everything, but if I remove the battery when the phone is still turned on, then everything remains.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Since I now know how to switch batteries without losing everying I feel a little better, but I'm concerned that I might lose everything one day when it's not convenient to do a hot sync to get everything back.

I had a very similar thing happen to me, but it's only happened once and I'm not sure I would attribute it to the phone being on OR off.

I shut the phone off (as I ALWAYS do) to swap for a freshly charged battery but when I slipped the new one in the battery slot, the "Palm Computing, Inc." screen started flashing on (for about a quarter of a second) then off, on and off, on and off.... I pushed the "power" button and I was given a prompt to erase everything, yes or no? When I tapped "no," back to the flashing Palm screen. So my only real option was to tap "yes." Lost everything... but my phone settings were still intact (custom display, etc).

Fortunately I had backed everything up a few days prior so I really only lost a couple of appointments and a phone number or three.

Fluke or bug?

Just like other PalmOS devices that have removable batteries, the I-300 has an internal recharging button cell battery for backup. This provides just enough juice to save everything while you change the batteries, assuming the battery is in good condition.
Once it stops working, you will lose everything everytime you change your main battery. Its pretty well burried inside the phone. I've had my apart, I can send you pics if you want of what it looks like inside. If I remember correctly, it is soldered - which makes it even more difficult to replace as a do-it-yourself project.

I have had similar problems with my I300. Not only the losing all data at battery swap but others.

I love using BugMe. However, if an alert is not addressed by tapping BugMe Later or disabling it and a phone call is missed the device reacts with FATAL ERROR. If I hit the Reset button, the process repeats itself.

This usually leaves me with two choices. Reset and erase all data, or boot it up in what I would call a "Safe" mode. I do this by holding the Down scroll button while it boots up. All of my built-in functions work with the excepteion of those that utilize the "data" communications functions such as Fax, Wireless Web and Blazer (web browser).

I have contacted Samsung af few times regarding these problems and have gotten absolutely nowhere with their Tech "Support" people. About all they seem to be able to suggest is not to use third party software!!! It makes one want to toss the I300 and get another palm device and seperate cell phone.

Thats my two cents.
