AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
The screen is broken!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I put it in a leg pocket on some work pants, and even though it was in a hard case, the screen still cracked! Now it looks like I am out $100 to have it replaced. This is something that I am hesitant to do, because I had to go through several units during the original warranty period to find one that works properly. I got the unit for only $200 plus shipping, brand new, and with a full warranty. This means that if I ever wanted to sell it, (and I said if; I still love my HandEra) I could hock it for $175 to the guy who is buying all of them up. Only down $25 for a PDA that served me well for a couple of years is unheard of. But, I don’t want another PDA yet and I don’t want to spend another hundred bucks on this one.
I would rather buy a broken one for parts! The screen is glued to the front piece, and the device is then screwed to the front panel AFAIK. Then the back plate is screwed to the unit. So, couldn’t I just find another broken HandEra, but with an intact screen and front piece, and take the digitizer/front assembly from it. Then I am not doing anything other then assembly, right? Well it is worth a shot, so does anyone have a device that is not working but believes the screen to still be in working order???

It was a surprize to get a responce from gethightech.com on a Sunday afternoon, but I did get an answer. As I thought, they do not have the parts to replace the screen and there is nothing they can do for me. I also sent word out to pdaspecialists.com; however, I suspect that they will give the same response.
I'm still betting on my original plan. There has to be someone out there who fried their device, but has an intact screen.
