I am interested in a Palm with modem and perhaps folding keyboard to use in Agentina for POP3 email. I am helping a friend with this. Is there a simple, durable model that would work for this that uses replaceable batteries, such as AAA? Would it be better to use a recharable model such as the M500? I am new to the Palm subject, as I have used Pocket PC before. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks...craigmj

A good backup program would be needed also, on this Palm, that would backup to a card, and when restored would also restore the backup program itself. Something where the card could be put in a new Palm if this one is dropped, and setup the new machine just like the old was. Thanks again...Craig

For a unit with replaceable batteries, try the M125. Battery life is excellent.

The M500 is a good choice as well. I would probably recommend that the end user get a mobile battery charger so that he could recharge from a battery in case the M500 runs out of juice. (I assume that this is a concern because you lead with replaceable batteries.) Try. http://www.talestuff.com/ for a charger kit.

For either of these units, the Palm keyboard for the 500 series will fit. Both have the universal connector.

Decent email program -- even though you haven't asked -- is Eudora.

Also, you may want to consider whether a cell phone hook up would be preferable to a modem. Consider that as an option.
