SD Card - where has the disk space gone?

I have a 256MB SD card for my iPaq 3870. I was approaching full capacity so I started to delete files and folders. However, I noticed that this wasn't incresing the amount of space avaialble. I therfore deleted everything. When I look at the storage card under the iPaq or via Active Synch it shows the card being empty but when I go to system settings on my iPaq it shows the card as only having 70MB free ! Has anybody had this problem before and how do I solve it?

Is it possible to reformat the SD card and start again? If so how do I do this?

Any help would be much appreciated.

1st try empty your recycle bin when you hook it up via activesync again. If you have a card reader you can format it with desktop file explorer just like any other drives. Or you can use either of these 2 programs to reformat your card on the ipaq.
