Well, I was attempting to help ique-waiter with a voice memo issue and now find myself in need of some assitance.
Voice Memo seems to work fine on the handheld - anyone able to read it on the Palm Desktop?
Here is what I beleive after searching other threads that no one has mentioned the actual listening of voice recordings on the desktop. There are two conduits for the iQue - Voice, whichs is the back up for the voice commands for navigation (I beleive) and then Voice Memo which I beleive is the conduit for the recordings. I have both conduits active within the HotSync application on the desktop but can't find a conduit manager for the handheld. If there is no conduit manager on the handheld then it won't export to the desktop no matter how hard I try, I believe.
Help- someone check a recording on their desktop please and advise if you show a conduit on the handled under the HotSync program.
Thanks,
tecman

I believe after you hotsync your audio is in the QueVoice folder, located in ...\Palm\your_profile_name\QueVoice directory. The file should be a *.wav file which can be used by most PC audio capable programs

I'm on the phone waiting some confirmations - Paul - do me one favor though. The default recordings are to the SD card. I can only get files to sync that are on the handheld. The SD card's don't.
There is a Voice Memo app in the Palm Desktop that ique waiter was looking for the files. This could be a "hangover" from my Tungsten T and may not be applicable to the Que - but see if you can transfer from the SD card to the directory - it shows both a handheld and card folders.

Well they are learning:
ique - waiter, WAV files from voice recorder will show up only in the following directory C:\Program Files\Palm\QueVoice\Handheld.
They are trying to determine if or why only the files from the handheld and not the SD cards are finding their way onto the desktop. There is no link within the Que Palm Desktop application that is supposed to work. My "Voice Memo" may be a hold over from the Tungsten T and the tech support guy (Brad) I spoke with has the same issue.
Tech support is suppose to call me back once they determine if files are supposed to move from the SD card to the Desktop during sync - but I doubt it because if that were the case the normal map image file would also be backed up each time and well we all know how long that would be.
ique waiter - sorry about the earlier misque (no pun intended). Did you previously have a Palm or Sony with Voice Memo? if so that's where the mix up came in. I still have an Expense icon in my desktop and that's not on the Que.
I'll post back when Garmin gets back to me.

Moose Man,
Thanks for all of your research and information. I have had 2 previous Palm devices. Neither of them used the Voice Memo function.
When I first had the Palm Desktop for Garmin installed, it had the descriptor for the Voice Memo icon visible, but the icon itself appeared only as a capitol "E".
Thinking that there may have been a problem with the original install, or because I had a previous version of Palm Desktop, I completely removed the original Palm Desktop and all of its files, folders, and references. I then re-installed it from the Garmin CD. The icon still appeared as a capitol "E". I then re-installed the original Palm Desktop 4.1 over the Garmin version. The icon then changed to the proper icon, but the files won't sync over tho that app. The .wav files do exist on the desktop, but they do not show up in the Voice Memo app on the Palm Desktop.
If you look in the Palm Desktop "About" screen, you can see that a voicememo.dll exists and is labeled as the Voice Memo conduit, but none the less, the voice memos do not appear in the Voice Memo app on the Palm Desktop.
Its got me beat! (for now!)
Thanks again for your help!

I don't think this is correct since I'm sure a conduit can be written to do more specific tasks than just grab everything on the card. For example, I'm sure it could grab just the wave files without grabbing the map files also.
I installed the Garmin software on a computer that had never had any Palm stuff on it before. Here's what I see...
I do not have any icons that have anything to do with "Voice" in the icon column on the left side of the Desktop. Nor do any of them have an "E". I think that whatever you are seeing along these lines must have been something that survived from a previous install of the Palm desktop.
The only voice conduit that I have in the conduit list is "Voice" and it's set to "Synchronize the files".
I was able to succesfully hotsync both a recording in RAM and a recording on the card. The one from RAM showed up in "C:\Program Files\Palm\<user_name>\QueVoice\Handheld" & the one from the card showed up in "C:\Program Files\Palm\<user_name>\QueVoice\Card".
Based on what I can tell, I don't think there's a part of the desktop that lets you listen to your recordings. I think you just have to go get them where they land on your hard drive. Also, I don't think there's a specific conduit for the voice guidance files. It looks like they're just .PDBs that get stored in your profile's backup directory (0001.vpm.pdb, etc.) and are synchronized with the standard data backup conduit.
Well, I hope this helps.

Cinderk - I agree that a program could be written to backup just the specific data on the card. Can't get it on my machine from the card as you described though. I'm glad your able to but still doesn't solve our problem.
It seems that - a clean install of the Palm Desktop and iQue software might be a pretty good idea for most users. There is obviously some issues with updating from a current Palm to an iQue that will or might cause some conflicts such as this.
The voice conduit - I believe that you mentioned in your post - is probably the correct conduit for user created voice files. The voice files used for navigation are apparently backup in the normal Palm backup directory - agreed.
This problem - is minor - and could be caused by just an unforseen conflict as a result of a previous Palm unit. I'm relatively comfortable that if I did a complete unistall of all Palm software and a purge of the registry - then reinstall - it would work fine. But that's not time that I have at my disposal at the moment.
I'd like an icon within the Palm desktop to access these files but it's not a show stopper.
Thanks for your input - always appreciated.
