Because of all the traveling I do I now have PsiWin loaded on 4 different computers so I'm never very far from a backup. This seems a little silly to me but I've had my psion crash more then once and having those backups on hand in those different location has turned out to be quite the blessing. Now the thing these 4 computers (and others I might have access to)have in comon is they all have USB ports. So I got to thinking....Does anybody think it would be possable to load a copy of PwiWin onto one of these little USB Memory drives and store my backups on the same device. That way I havn't got PsiWin loaded on 4 of my friends computers and my backup is always with me. In fact if this proceedure where possible I would have access to my backup from any computer that had a USB port and a Serial Port. Well what do you think? I look forward to hearing from someone out there that knows alot more about this stuff then I do. Thanks.

Duncan,

Perhaps I'm missing something obvious but why not just back up your Psion to a CF directly? Assuming you have a Series 5 or 5mx, you can back up the entire contents of the 16mg of internal data to a CF and the contents of a data CF as well. you can then restore directly from the CF card without needing any PC. The only reason I can see you'd need a plan like you've outlined is if you're using a Revo or Mako.

Thanks Jim for your time. I already do back up my 5MX to a CF card using the program Backup. This has already saved me once. But if you want to work on someones computer and have the abliaty make convertions and cut and paste you need the PsiWin. For instance if you book a ticket on the internet you can copy the whole page and paste it in to your psion. I do alot of this sort of stuff. So I go back to my original question... is it possible to put a copy of PsiWin on one of these USB memory devices and get it to work on any computer that has a USB and serial port. Thanks again for your time.

I would suggest that, as PsiWin places a considerable number of entries in the PC's registry and integrates with Windows Explorer, trying to run it as a stand alone program on a USB drive would not be possible.

OK Mike. Thanks for your help. Well I was a good idea while it lasted. I guess I'll just keep on with the system I'm using. Thanks again.
