....but did anyone notice a speedier internet connection when the American Northeast power grid was down? because ive heard of conjestion when theres lots of computers online, so it should work in reverse to a certain extent? or am i completely wrong?

Thats probably what happen, both Cable and DSL have "bottleneck" points where the more people that are online the slower it gets, so with the east coast power out, it probably greatly reduced the bottleneck.

But most isps have you connect to a local station, so you are never connecting to the northeast station unsless you are in the northeast. So that wouldn't help the bottle neck at the local level, but it very well could have helped at the national level. What i mwan is it wouldn't make your connection any fast, but pages/pictures/files would load faster becuase less people were trying to access them. However if you were sending a file from one pc to your next door neighbor it wouldn't help.
