Ok, guys, I'm finally going to get the opportunity to install/hot synch/fire up my new toy tonight (I've been away all weekend, no computer, but that's ok, I've waited this far...)
I've got a clear idea of how to transfer to my new friend, the only question I have is cradles. I also synched (sunked?? ;)) my Palm at work, so I'd like to get another cradle for there, however, they seem to be at a premium. Are there any compatible cradles out there that I can buy off the shelf, or do I need to order it and wait a bit? Best Buy is right down the street! :)
If you already have a cradle with universal connector, it will most likely work with the iQue. I'm using a palm m515 cradle both at home and work with no issues. Just make sure it's seated firmly on the cradle; the protective cover attachment makes it sit up a little.
The M515 cradles cost about $26.00.
I converted the iQue cradle into a auto nav kit until I get the real one from Garmin.

Garv...
When you are using the m515 cradle, does it both charge and sync the iQue?
Thanks!
Yep, both charging and syncing are fine.

Thanks!
I will try that tonight!

Thanx, Garv. I'm off to Best Buy to see if they have one (no way to call them, they're firm believers in phonemail hell!!! )

The Palm Hot Sync Cradle I have is NOT syncing, although it is charging. It is P10828U. The USB version.
Are you successful syncers using the serial version?
According to diagrams on the Palm developers website, the two cradles, serial and USB, use different channels. and different pins on the cradle, to synch.

Garv...
Your m515 cradle... is it the Palm P10819U? The USB model?
I believe that the P10828U referred to by Petesl is a serial model. If his is the serial model, than I believe that may be the issue. Is that correct Petesl?

I mistyped the number: I do have the USB P10819U. (the other serial model number was on the back of the box, for reference if you wanted to buy that one.)

Okay.
And yours will charge, but not sync? I am currently using the Palm charge / sync cable that is designed for use in a car. It both charges and syncs the iQue without any problems. I just plugged the usb connector into my pc and it works well.
I am wondering why the cradle would be different...

That's correct, power but no sync. I wonder I need to reinstall drivers for the cradle, since I originally synced to this machine using the Garmin cradle. Doesn't seem right, since the drivers that installed (I thought) were for the Handheld, not the cradle. The auto-detect did not see the Garmin hardware until I added the palm to it.....
Next, I'll try disconnecting my laptop from my docking station, under the theory that maybe it's the docking station pass-through for USB that's hoseing it up.

The number of the charger/cable I am using is the P10884U. It has basically the same description as the P10819U on Plam's website.
You might be on to something with the docking station. Try connecting it directly to a USB port on the notebook.
If anything, I would guess that the problem should be the opposite... sync with no charge...
I am sure we all will be interested in finding out if you get it to work.
I hope you do, so I can rest assured that it works before I buy one! lol

no dock -- no sync. Now, I'll try to find somebody with an M515 to see if that will connect.....

Not sure... the cradle doesn't have a model number on it other than the "E" stamped on the bottom. It's got a tag on the wire labeled (definitly USB though):
163-1149 (int)
180-0711 (us)
- Have to check later on the one at home to see if it's the same....
Also, one thing to check... as I've already read the rest of the posts to this thread...
The USB drivers are located under:
\Palm\USB_Driver
File names:
PALMUSBD.INF
PalmUSBD.sys
I had a problem initially with hot sync becuase I dropped the iQue into the cradle and pressed the hot sync button without having the iQue software installed. Windows then prompted me for the device driver at which point I canceled without loading the driver. I was then unable to sync until I loaded the iQue software and manually updated the USB iQue driver. I chose to unistall / re-install the palm desktop, but it probably would have worked if I just right clicked the INF file and selected install.

: ( Sorry it doesn't work. I am going to buy one on the way home tonight just for kicks. I will be sure to post my results after I try it.

This machine worked yesterday with the Garmin USB cradle. I uninstalled and installed the Palm desktop just now. Still not seeing the Icue when I hit sync with the palm sync/charge cable. Or the Palm universal cradle. Checked my USB in the bios, and plugged in another USB device successfully to make sure.
The USB drivers show up in the proper directory and I right-click installed just to make sure.
Dunno.

Any suggestions?
By day's end, I was all convinced that somehow my Ique's connector was screwed up, since it wouldn't sync come hell or high water with the palm cradle that was described as a match in Stymix's message here (http://www.pdastreet.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=24002)
But then, I tried again on another machine at home with the Garmin cradle and it works!
Trued plugging in the Palm cradle at home, in the same USB slot as the Garmin and....NADA. Nothing. Zilch.
Nothing wrong with the Palm cradle: It synced a non-ique palm during all these travails....
Help!

I had a similar problem. First synced fine, then stopped. Installed it on a different PC and it worked. Tried to reset my PC (with Windows XP) to an earlier restore point. Did not work. Finally ran Norton Utilities and had all Windows problems fixed and I have been synching fine ever since ...

This might sound like a long shot, but try removing the protective cover if it's on. Then put it into the cradle and wiggle it a little side to side to ensure a good connection. Then try the sync.
Occasionally, I don't get a great connection and although I get power it will not sync. I leave the protective cover on, but have to press it down into the cradle to get a good connection. This only seems to happen on one of my cradles, the other one I just pop it in and it's fine.
