A friend of mine pointed me to an Ad by Teletype for World Navigator where it quotes reviews from many publications. The feature list quotes some features that are not there in iQue and even standard automobile GPS systems. One model combines GPS receiver with Bluetooth.

How good are these ?

I tried the Teletype and found it buggy and sluggish. The maps are not as good and memory management is sometimes problematic. Selected routes sometimes make variations from major streets for no apparent reason - regardless of the routing options set. The synthetic voice sounds somewhere between human and castrated animal - at least on my iPaq. I understand there is now an "upgrade" available to correct some of these issues but, they are charging $40 and I just purchased the program this past May! Thanks, but I'll pass. These are things that require fixing, not upgrading.

Right now, I would have to say that there is NOTHING that compares to the Garmin. For the Pocket PC, I like Mapopolis the best. It is fast and uses the Navtech data, like Garmin. But, you cannot ad vias to customize selected routes and you must manage maps, manually, into and out of active memory, county by county. This is not much of a problem for city driving but, for longer trips, it can be pretty tedious since the state major-road maps can lack critical connecting roads.

John,

Thanks for your succint report. I am now more convinced that I made the right decision buying the iQue. Lower cost, trusted/proven GPS vendor. Normally you don't get the best of both the worlds, but this time we have.
