minature flash cards Velo 1

Great to find the active forum!

I need some suggestions for miniature flash cards that can be installed in a Velo 1 (directly in the Flash/ROM miniature card slot).

OEM seems all but impossible to find. Web searches and discussions with folks at Kingston etc reveal products (compact flash cards) but that are inserted with adapters in the V-module.

Any suggestions on where to find a workable solution would be greatly appreciated.

From old press releases it seems 4 or 5 manufacturers may have actually made them. Like you, I've yet to find a source. I have read that the flash socket was limited to 4MB though (not conformed) I have disected a 4MB ram card though, nothing more than a couple 2MB drams and some logical glue. It appears that it may be possible to replace the two 2MB drams on teh main board with 8MB parts to have 16MB on board though.

It's an interesting puzzle. From digging through assorted web sites it seems that the Velo miniture flash cards came out during the same period as the various formats for flash memory (e.g., compact flash etc) were sorting themselves out. The Philips choice, appears to have been one of the losers.

The Velo 1 Users guide notes "Philips approved" memory cards are recommended, which suggests that there were manufacturers. The guide also states that an updated list of such cards is available on the official Velo web site. Unfortunately, the official site is long gone and I've been unable to find any mention of specific cards on the unofficial Velo sites that still are on the web.

I wonder if anyone might remember which cards were listed on the official site?

The cards do show up on ebay occasionally. I had a couple for sale but they're gone now, I just have the one left that's in my Velo 1.

Were the miniature flash cards you sold in the past (and the one in your current Velo) the original Philips cards or from another manufacturer?

They were Philips cards. I've never found another card in the 3.3v format.
