OK, you all have scared me a bit. I had very little difficulty installing my first round of maps -- one region and 6 detailed maps. Now I need to install one or two more detailed maps, which will be in a different region. I understand that there have been many difficulties when others have attempted this. Any advise before I begin?

smgord,

I too took baby steps with the installation. If you have the SD card and/or you have more space in the internal memory of iQue (check that out), then just go ahead with Map Install under palm desktop. You will see that the maps that you had selected earlier are still in the selected list. As you point to a map, it will show the size and once selected, the selection window clearly shows the total size at the bottom. Keep an eye on that, and keep adding maps. Then, wait for the long build time (it does take a long time on my P4 based PC). Once done, just hotsync.

smgord:

Remember that you can not "add maps" to an existing mapset. You must delete the current mapset from the IQue, build a new mapset with the added maps, and download the new mapset . The mapset is loaded as a single file to the handheld.

Paul,

My understanding was that the new mapset overwrites the old one and so I don't have to physically delete it from iQue before I load the new one.

I belive you are correct. The file always have the same name. GMAPPSUPP.IMG, so when you create your new detailed maps, it will name them as one file, with this name. Since there can't be two files with the same name, the newest overwrites the older one.

That's what I thought too, since no matter what maps you copy over, the file name of the actual image file which contains the selected detailed maps remains the same (GMAPSUPP.img), so it is theoretically possible to overwrite one image with another without having to delete the previous one first.
