Could anyone help me, I have a Revo + and a new laptop. There is no connection for my serial cable to enable me to syncronize. I would like to syncronize using infared, but how do I go about this, I have read the board and have installed Ircomm2k as I am using Win 2000.
The icon appears on the lower task bar telling me that it have found a Symbian Epoc and that it is in range. However I cannot get psi win to syncronise. Please could someone help me.

Cheers

Mark..

Having installed IrCOMM2k, do you have a "Virtual IR COM Port" in PsiWin Properties which you can select? There is no other way for PsiWin to find a connected machine so it is essential to be able to select your IR port here.

Users have had varying degrees of success with patches for IrCOMM in Win 2000, but I believe that for the majority it just isn't successful. You might also consider using a USB "Serial Port Replicator" to create a serial port for cable connection which should work.

I have never been able to get PsiWin to sync over IR under Win2K. PsiWin does not seem to be able to see the virtual IR port in Win2K. Microsoft changed the way it handles IR in Win2K and beyond, so the old IRDA mapping no longer works. On my laptop I actually have a dual boot option, and have installed Win95 in addition to Win2k, primarily to run a few programs that do not run very well under Win2K. However, I can get my Mako to sync over IR in Win95, but the connection is dead slow. Takes about 10-15 min to perform a full backup, compared to 5 or so when using the direct cable.

Have just got a new work laptop with win2k on it. Installed the ircomm2k software and allocated comm port 4. If I switch on my 7book with link to desktop set as irda, my laptop detects the epoc device but Psiwin cannot connect.

Good news is that I can still send and receive files between both machines as I have plbeam installed on my 7book. So it looks as if it is possible to perform some form of backup or file transfer (at maximum of speed of 115200 but none of Psiwins conversions/syncronising.

As I also have a cf card adapter, I think I will stick to that for transferring and quick backups and continue using the cable for syncronising outlook.

I loaded psiwin 2.3.3, activated the IR port and clicked on the my psion icon. The psion was set to receive ir files.

I don't know anyone else with a psion to connect to. I did a IR send of a jotter entry and the response was could not find another machine so apparently the IR function is connected on my psion.

The IR on my thinkpad is listed as working in the device manager and I've printed though it to a HP laser jet before???

Help

I loaded psiwin 2.3.3, activated the IR port and clicked on the my psion icon. The psion was set to receive ir files.
If you are running PsiWin over an Infrared connection, the Psion should not be set to receive files. If you want to transfer files to the Psion, 'drag & drop' them with the right mouse button (which gives the option of whether or not to convert) or use Copy Anywhere.

I haven't found a way to "beam" files between Psion and PC (Win98) in the same way that you can with another Psion, though it may well be possible.

If you are having problems running PsiWin over IR, make sure that only the Virtual IR COM port is selected in PsiWin properties and that the same speed is set in both PsiWin and the Psion - do not use Maximum Attainable with IR.

try plbeam, it exchange data via infra-red from epoc to windows, palm, windows ce/pocket pc, etc. I have the free application "C Beam" which supports file transfer to and from the Psion with IrOBEX protocol. In Windows 98, I can select "Send to Infrared Recipient" and receive a file with the Psion but, if I want to send a file to the PC, there doesn't seem to be any way to tell it to receive a file.

hi Mike!

i can't seem to find your C-Beam to check it out...

maybe the shareware(plbeam) can do better... according to the FAQ, there should be a program(like QuickBeam Suite from www.extendedsystems.com) to be installed in win95/98 to work properly.

hopes this helps.
