About a month ago, my 5mx stopped synching with my desktop computer. Nothing else changed. Every time I try, I get an error message saying, "the synchronization did not finish properly. There may be errors."

When I look at the log, it says this, "The Synchronizer encountered an error with the EPOC interface.
An unspecified error occurred on the Psion!"

Can anyone help?

Pogue,

What desktop program and version are you syncing to? What version of Psiwin? What version of Windows? Do you have seperate sync tasks set up for your calendar, to's-do's, and contacts or one sync task that covers all of them? Does any information get transferred or do you get the error message immediately?

It's likely that something has gotten corrupted within the Agenda file or the PC file but I need to know the above information before I can hazard a guess.

Outlook.

version 2, which came on the CD I got with the 5mx.

What version of Windows?
Windows XP

All on one synch.

Yeah. Only my contacts don't get transferred. My calendar information does OK.

And here's something else. I also synch to my laptap. (Outlook, Windows XP) While it doesn't get any error message, only occassionally do some of my contacts get transferred. Again, no problem with the calendar.

Thanks for your help.

Pogue,

I'm assuming you're using PsiWin version 2.2. You can find this out by going to My Psion, Help, about PsiWin... If it doesn't say Psiwin 2.3.3, Build 149 then that's your problem. If you ever got an earlier version of PsiWin to sync with Outlook then you can count yourself lucky since it usually doesn't work at all with Win2K or WinXP.

You need to download PsiWin 2.3.3 for the Psion website. There's a link in the Software section of the forum here. You next need to uninstall the current version of PsiWin. Since the uninstall routine doesn't remove 100% of the previous PsiWin installation, use the Registry Cleaner application I've attached here to finish the job.

You should then be able to install PsiWin 2.3.3. This is should now sync correctly with Outlook. I'm also assuming that you're not using Outlook 97, which has its own set of problems. You may want to try syncing with a new Agenda file as a start since the exsisting Agenda file may be corrupted.

The first time I did try to synchronize I got the message:
Unable to load application interface.
Synchronization finished. The synchronization did not finish normally. There may be errors.

I reinstalled windows a few weeks ago.
Windows 2000 Version 5.0(Build 2195:Service Pack 3)
Microsoft Outlook 2000 SP-3
PsiWin 2.3.3 Build 149
Psion Series 7

I have no trouble with the serial link and have been doing the backup several times.
Also the synchronizer connects to the Psion and also finds the agenda files, but it looks as some files are missing in the installation.

I did check Program Files/Psion/PsiWin and did find the files
Outlook.dll and Outlook.dlr

Bertil,

Why did you reload Windows? Did you do a hard drive format before reloading Windows or just reinstall Windows on top of the existing installation. If you just reinstalled Windows then it's likely some PsiWin files may have been overwritten. Use the instruction I gave in my message above to uninstall and then reinstall PsiWin and see if that fixes the problem

Jim,

The hard drive was formated and Windows was installed on a clean drive.
This was done because I had some trouble with entries in the registry.
I also created a new agenda file on the psion.

Which application interface is PsiWin trying to load ?

Bertil,

I'm not sure that PsiWin is trying to load anything. It sounds like the problem many be on your Series 7. You can start by deleting the PsiWin.ini file and see if that makes a difference. A sodt reset would be the next step followed by a hard reset if things don't work. Don't do a restore - just copy your Agenda file back and see if the sync works correctly. It sounds like something is not working correctly on your S7.

Jim,

You were right, the trouble was in the S7.
I created a new agenda file in the S7 and suddenly the synchronization did work.
PsiWin do find both agenda files but don't synchronize to the old one. The properties for both synchronization options were exactly the same.

Then I did some additional tests and this is the result.
The name of the agenda file should not be longer than 8 characters ( good old DOS ).
If the file name is to long you will get the following error message from PsiWin (2.3.3):
Unable to load application interface.

This is a not infrequent occurance with myself. I have found the easiest soloution is to delete the entire contacts file from outlook and re-sync again. However that does depend on you using the Psion as your main machine for contacts and how good your backups are.

I use WP with psi-win 2.3.3 and have the same problem with 5mx and netbook.

Howard,

I think you missed the point of the thread. The Contacts file wasn't the problem. It was an Agenda file with file name longer than 8 characters. I rather suspect it wasn't just eight characters but also included a space, which PsiWin doesn't like.

Jim:

I did as you instructed and it's working fine now. Thank you.
