As I was driving through those small southern towns in Texas (If you've driven through these then you'll understand my plight, but this may also apply to other states) They have those irritating speed limits that exponentially slow down 'till you are going about 5 mph. I was thinking, (This relies on participation, though it may be too daunting of a task altogether) that we could record speed limits for GPS coords that would apply to whichever road you were using. (Keeping the same map "squares" that have the details on them). I'd be willing to try to make the program for the iQue to record speed limit (probably just a grafitti shortcut that would pop up a quick box to record speed to which road you are on, until that road either changed speed limits or not). Example:
|50_______|40___|30________70
| being speed limit signs, and _ being road. This seems feasible, though it probably requires A) Driving recklessly, recording speed limits while navigating hairpin turns, or B) Having someone in the car assisiting. Anyways, just a thought I had that would be _really_ nice for those of us who rarely if ever pay the best of attention to speed signs.
I'm supposing for creating the database I could create a simple database on a website that allowed uploading of GPS speed data or something of the like. Anyways, this all requires on participation, and I'm not sure how many people really care about this anyways.

John,
I think you've hit on a worthwile service. I'd be happy to try and participate. I hope it works out, with enough people collecting data for you, perhaps we help a few users stay under the speed limit, and avoid a ticket.:D

Thanks for the quick response :-). as it seems this idea may actually be used I'll get to digging into the iQue SDK and start looking into the coord structs and how exactly the street identification works. Any suggestions I'd be happy to try to work them in.

Ability to add a waypoint for radar/police locations and have it warn you as you're approaching known speed traps would be an excellent feature!

Hmm.... That could/should be easy enough, I should probably tackle that first before I dive into interpretting iQue GPS data :-), I've already creating a conversion from wav to pdb VPM sound so this should be rather rudimentary, just check of the oncoming Waypoint/Point of interest is tagged with a Police radar. Woe to the cities who's base income is speed traps, right? ;-)

What would be amazing would be an hardware adapter and program that would connect my Valentine 1 to the iQue and automagically record the proper waypoints when the detector goes off.

I was thinking along the same lines, but I wasn't sure (as I've never had a radar before) if there was any out type interface (or anything that may send a signal [any kind] to another device [any kind]) but I wasn't sure. So the question is does yours? Without modifying it? Would you be willing to? Is it worth it in the long run? Not sure, but I don't think it'd be that hard, except finding a way to interface with the iQue, say through the SD Interface or the mic jack.

My Ique, she no got a mic jack. I remember, reading a number of post indicating the SD is not SDIO, could that mean that data can not be transmitted through the SD slot? The serial, Palm universal connector may continue to be a option, but then interfer with the AutoKit.
Will this be necessary to develop a speed limit, known speed enforcement location (a/k/a SPEED-TRAP) data base?;)

Arr, I'm just full of inconsistancies, your correct about the mic jack, i was confusing it with my new laptop for some reason. None of those will be neccessary for this to work (speed traps/ speed limit) Though I'm suprised to hear about the SD not being SDIO, thats kindof a dissapointment, but ah well, Sorry about the incorrect data, the iQue is even right in front of me. The Automatic adding of speed traps I suppose is then out of the question if its true that the SD slot is not SDIO, since we obviously cannot use the cradled connector :-\. Just have add those manually.
Maybe we can have her piggyback on a palm serial that can interupt some data? Thus we don't lose that option.
