Would appreciate an ASAP help.

This is my 3rd Mako (out of 4 which I bought for my family at the time), which suddenly "declared independence"...

The left side spring broke off (that happened in the other 2 as well...) and now I can't turn on the machine. The red charging light goes on for a minute or two and then the green remains on. But nothing is showing up on the screen.

At this time my main concern is to back up the latest information contained in the Mako. Any suggestions ?

My feeling is that when the spring broke, it somwhow shorted the battery circuit (But I can't be sure of that....). I opened the battery compartment, the the pieces got out (metal pins and the broken plastic chunk of the left hinge).

Can anyone help in a hurry - I use my Mako for work info. and without it am ... worth less....

I will appreciate if any comments of "Motherhood" type abut back-up etc, will be halted until I get out of this mess...

Thank you all.

BTW - if it is possible to bypass the original battery at least for a backup process - please advise me so.

All I can suggest is that you plug in the mains adapter and try to backup to the PC "blind". Press:

[Esc] to switch on.
[System] tap the System silkscreen button to be sure you are in the System screen.
[Ctrl-L] to open the Link dialog box
[C] to select Cable
[Down arrow] to move to the baud rate line
[5] to set 57600
[Enter] to activate Link and close dialog box.

Use a speed of 57600 because [1] could set either 19200 or 115200. You may have to alter PsiWin Properties to 57600 as well.

Mike I have tried this "blind" method. The Computer doesn't seem to connect. Nothing happened.

Should I try a Soft reset ?

Is there a way to bypass the battery (just in order to retreive the memory ?) - assume that I am not only very handy but also an Electronics Eng. (...!!).

Should I try a Soft reset ? There is certainly nothing to lose by performing a soft reset.
Is there a way to bypass the battery (just in order to retreive the memory ?) If the battery connection or the batteries themselves have failed, there is nothing left in memory to retrieve. The power from the batteries is required to maintain your data in memory.
