Following a lock up and a complete reset and restore I have lost the backlight on my 3c. Seems unlikely that it would have failed at the same time, so is there some secret magic to re-activate it ?
It was in use right up to the lock up, which was caused by low main batteries and me trying to finish what I was doing by switching back on following an auto shut down.

I am not aware of any reason why the backlight should no longer work unless running it with excessively low batteries has damaged it. Presumably you now have fresh batteries in?

If you perform a hard reset and, before restoring from backup, it fails to turn on, it must be a hardware fault.

Thanks for that, I'm currently sat 6000 miles from my handbook, and never having done a hard reset please remind me how. I assume this is the same as removing both main and back up batteries ??

In your original message you said "Following a lock up and a complete reset and restore". Presumably if you had to restore, you must have performed a 'hard' reset and deleted all data from the machine? Anyway, all batteries out is as good a way to hard reset as any. Unless you have a RAM SSD with a possibly dodgy battery in, I would suggest you leave the 3c without power for about half an hour.
