Thanks for letting me be a part of this great forum. I had to do a hard reset, I am not sure what the reason was, but when I put my palm backup card in the SD slot to restore the backup data it said,

"Unrecognized card: The handheld cannot recognize this card."

I have OS 4.00 on a Palm 505 and have not updated the OS system. I read that someone updated to 4. 1 and that it might help to delete the FATFS but is that only if there has been an upgrade or can I delete the FATFS? Can that help?

Also when I am hotsyncing I keep on getting
"Hotsync has caused an error in the Kernel.32.DLL
Hotsync will now close
If you continue to experience problems try restarting your computer. "

I pressed close on the screen and it kept popping up with the same message. I have to turn the computer off to get the message off my computer and the hotsync back on the computer. I try hotsyncing again and get the same message. Thanks so much for any help anyone can offer.

Two issues:
1). You need FATFS if you are working with cards larger than 64mg. You will want to reformat your card using the Palm's built in format function after the Desktop is reinstalled. If you are using cards over 64 go to Palm and download the FATFS.
2) You need to uninstall the Palm Desktop completely and reinstall the new Desktop. Use the remove info at the link below.

Dear Dr. Mudd,

Thanks for your help. I have a 64 MG card that works fine but it is my palm backup card that is the problem. The 505 will still not read it. I actually have a 4.0.1 desktop that I completely uninstalled and then installed. It is now syncing my Memo pad without a constant error of Kernel fault but the 505 Is still not reading my original palm backup card. Thanks so much for any help.

James,
As a first step try doing a soft reset on your Palm with the back up card firmly seated in your Palm.

If this fails to allow the Palm to recognize the backup card I fear the only solution is to format the card.
