Hi, I've just had Win98 reinstalled on my machine and I've been reinstalling all my software. I can't get ActiveSync to detect my device. Have tried ActiveSync 3.1 and now 3.5 but just can't get beyond the Get Connected box 'your device was not detected'. The USB cable is plugged in properly, as before, so it's not that. Any ideas? Thanks
:) Check in conncetion settings that you have cheched the box for USB.

Do you mean on the Ipaq? That is checked. Or the desktop?
Thanks a lot

I ran into the same problem (iPAQ3135)last week, and still have no resolution. The problem started as I was syncing while the DC power was plugged in. Since then, I have learned that syncing though the USB while the DC power is conencted may cause a problem and there is ROM fix that can be downloaded. Since I still can not connect to the PC, I can not install the fix.
I have tried uninstalling active sync and the USB driver, then reinstalling, etc... I tried it on a windows 98 and a windows 2000 machine, and with activesync 3.1 and 3.5. Nothing has worked.
Under device manager, I get the message:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
Somewhere I read that a soft reset on the iPAQ device may solve the problem. Does anyone know how to do a soft reset on the iPAQ3135? Does this action cause loss of data on the device?
If anyone has a solution, it will be much appreciated.

My wife and me ran into that problem when I installed my Ipaq to my W98. I had recently did a re-install of my W98 and for some reason it didn’t recognize my USB port. Wellllll we had to reinstall the drivers for the USB than we had to search for a driver on the Active sync CD for my Ipaq……it works great now
Your last post is what we experienced word for word

Hello Pepper,
I tried finding an appropriate USB driver on the Activesync CD, but did not find any. Do you remeber the driver name, and where on the CD you found it?
Thanks.

Greeting;
I had upgraded my old computer to Win98 and had no problem with the active sync. The MIS guys at my work told me that 98 could better detect USB devices. I"ll hit them up at work tomorrow and post whatever the say. The both are iPAQ freaks like myself so they are in the know and have fixed my old computer about a year ago. I have since purchased a new Dell with XP on it and it's awsome.
The MIS dudes will have a suggestion, and I will be sure to pass it on. They'll also know where to get a USB driver if you need one.

Thanks so much to everyone for your help - there's plenty for me to try now, though more info on where to get drivers would be great.
Soft resets are dead easy. Just poke the stylus into the little hole onto the base of the Ipaq briefly (on the right). You don't lose data. My Ipaq has 'crashed' before now and it got it going again nicely.

My PDA now syncs :-) Thanks Joanne for the soft reset instructions. The port started to work after the soft reset. So what I had to do to get the PDA to work was:
Uninstall the USB driver
Uninstall Activesync
Reinstall Activesync
Soft Reset the PDA
Plugin the USB cable and follow the screen instructions.
