I've had problems with alarms of various kinds since getting my first PPC recently, an HP iPAQ 2210. These have arisen with a variety of applications, both the built-in ones such as Clock and other Reminders (via Notes, Tasks, etc), and with 3rd party programs. I've seen similar problems reported in a variety of newsgroups, forums, etc (such as microsoft.public.pocketpc, Brighthand, Wormhole, Pocket PC City, pocketdraw, the HP business forum, etc).
Here are details of the most recent of them. It's relatively 'simple' as it apparently involves only the built-in PPC 2003 Clock Alarm facility.
I set an early morning wake up alarm using Clock. It was set to Play Sound, Repeat sound and Display message. After setting, I switched off, placed the 2210 on bedside table, and went to sleep. The initial alarm sound occurred at the right time, 06:20. The LED started flashing. The display did not come on. A few seconds later the second repetition of the sound started and was then 'snuffed out' part way through. The LED continued flashing. If I hadn't set a backup alarm (a cheap clock), which had woken me up first, I wouldn't have been woken up at all.
On manually switching on my 2210, the alarm sound then began to repeat. It continued indefinitely, despite unchecking the alarm in Clock. It even continued *while* I was doing a soft reset. I got up, placed it in my cradle for 15 mins or so, and on returning the alarm had stopped. (Of course the LED was flashing, but presumably that was now the re-charging signal.)
Clearly, this is a serious issue. I expect nothing short of 100% reliability in such a critical application as alarms. Anyone know what the Microsoft position is on this please?
