Is anyone using the USB hotsync cable instead of the cradle? I need another set-up for my home office. The cable (and AC adapter) is cheaper than a second cradle/AC adapter. My cradle connection is very fussy. Maybe the cable connection is more secure? (I realize I’ll have to hotsync from the PDA screen, which is no big deal.)

Yes.

I bought the Palm USB sync/power cable at Best Buy. It also has a car charger adaptor. (I figured it's better to buy genuine Palm, rather than third party.)

Since I bought this, I have not used the cradle or the Garmin AC charger. The IQue lies flat on my desk, with the cable running over the front of the desek and then down to the USB port on my computer.

This arrangement makes it much easier to pick up the IQue, flip it over, and stick a paper clip in the back for one of its frequent resets, while still leaving it connected to the PC.

Note that the connector is the Palm Universal Connector, and does not lock into the IQue.

I bought the Garmin-branded USB cable to travel with because of the smaller size, but now I use it all the time because it has a locking mechanism to secure it to the iQue--much easier than the tilt-mechansim of the cradle, I think.

The cable includes a separate little pigtail to plug the Garmin power adapter into; it doesn't charge from the USB port as far as I can tell.

Thanks for your reply. It was exactly the feedback I was looking for.

The one sold at Radio Shack also works well. Much better than the Palm branded one because it is locking. The Palm one is very loose, a little nudge and the connection is lost - a hassale when syncing.

I bought the Belkin F8P3001 USB Power Sync Travel Kit so I could sync and power my iQue while on the road. I can get it to charge just fine but it will not Sync to my IBM Thinkpad.

My Garmin Cradle works just fine to both sync and charge, but the Belkin will only charge.

Any thoughts?

The Palm Universal Connoctors work with the iQue, The only problem is that the shipped configuration of the connector dose not lock into place. The problem is that the two latching tabs are too long for the iQue. This is because the iQue case interferes with the connector on the iQue. There are two easy solutions to making this kit work great. 1) bend the locking tabs back such that the tabs look like the ones on the Garmin cradle. 2) cut about 1/16” off the ends of the locking tabs.

I bent the locking tabs back using a piece of hard wood and gently applying pressure to the end of the locking tab. I made several small adjustments until the connector snapped into place and locked securely. The final lock is tighter then the Garmin cradle will not come loose you pull it out.

I am using a retractable sync/charge cable (a very tiny one) from http://www.boxwave.com/products/minisync/ms_garmin_ique36.htm (boxwave.com) that works very well with iQue - charging and syncing. The only difference with the Palm cable is that the Palm cable has a hotsync button and so you don't have to go thru the menus on iQue. This unit has been designed for iQue and so fits firmly.

Stupid question:
Does the same cable works on other PALM.... such as i705. I carry both of them.

timchen,

I wouldn't know about other PDAs as this is my first PDA. I also saw a similar item cheaper cost at $12.95 in Micro Center.
