I have my bluetooth set up and i can use activesync fine but i have a few questions:

1)Is there any way to have my ipaq automaticly connect to my desktop and activesync when ever it is with-in range. Right now i have to maually inetiate the connection.

2)Is there anyway to force activesync to sync continuosly while connected via bluetooth? The lowest setting i've found is 5minutes.

Also i think i sort of misunderstand how the bluetooth connection works. When you use bluetooth to connect to activesync, does activesync know your connecting with bluetooth or does it jsut think it is connected direcly via a com port? Does it follow the wireless sync options(like sync schedual) or the regular ones?

I'm sorry but I don't have answer to your question just more questions of my own. I have been thinking about buying a bluetooth USB adaptor for my laptop so I can sync wirelessly. According to your post you have succesfully done this.

May I ask what bluetooth device did you purchase to add bluetooth capability to your PC? What OS are you running on your PC? I have win98SE on my laptop and XP Pro (no SP1) on my desktop. I read an article someplace that you had to have XP with SP1 to use bluetooth is that true?

I also did some research on bluetooth keyboards working with pocket pcs and all I could find were articles at least six months old so they may be out of date but most of them said the MS bluetooth office was very undependable. Anyone have anymore up to date information?

Thanks

I got a generic bluetooth usb adapter off ebay for $20. I am using xp home sp1 but it works just as well on my laptop with 98se. I don't think bluetooth keyboards would work because there are no pocket pc drivers to use with them. You might be able to use a driver from a foldable Pocket pc keyboard but i don't really know. If you are going to get bluetooth just do do activesync, use wireless headsets, etc then i think any USB caple computer can handle it. However for adding bluetooth to your network or setting up a bluetooth network windows xp is MUCH easier.

I've narrowed my questions down to 1 simple one that hopefully someone can help me with.

1)When using bluetooth to sync which rules does activesync use; Regular or wireless?

I called HP and when your using bluetooth activesync thinks your PPC is directly connected via a physical com port, so it uses the desktop settings and not the wireless.

My new question is about switching between bluetooth and a sync cable. When ever i try to use the sync cable after using blue tooth activesync on the Pocker pc gives me an error about the com port being in use of something. I then have to open up options, and change the connection from 'bluetoothactivesync to 'USB. Is there anyway to get arround this problem?

I am having all sorts of trouble using activesync with bluetooth. I set it up on my pc at home and it worked fine. I took the usb bluetooth device to work and set it up there also. Again, it worked fine the first time. But after that, when i took the bluetooth dongle back to my home pc active sync could not connect to my ipaq. I followed the setup process again but still could not get active sync to recognise the ipaq. after hours of frustration i did a soft reset and everything was fine (at home). Now I'm back at work and going through the same frustrations again. But this time the soft reboot didn't cure it. i uninstalled active sync. reinstalled it from the latest download and now i can't get past the 'get connected' screen where active sync searches for your device, as it can't find it.

Before I throw the usb bluetooth device in the bin,,,

IS THERE AND IDIOTS GUIDE TO ACTIVE SYNC WITH BLUETOOTH ANYWHERE?

Thanks

That's a good guide. The thing i found though was that the install wouldn't work very good for me. It would try to install the virtuall comports, ask for a driver on the xp cd. I would point it to that driver and it would appear to install it how ever in device manager there was always problem. Finally i booted into safe mode and tryied again and it worked.

I am trying to configure Bluetooth on my laptop so I can sych my iPAQ 2215 away from home wirelessly. I followed the instructions in the guide mentioned above and still can't get it to work. One problem I have is that I can't get assigned any com ports lower than 15 and it needs to be 1-9. I installed different updated drivers for the IOGear dongle and still didn't get that. I can connect to the computer on the Bluetooth direct serial link and send files each way. I installed the BT network access connection and it seems to work to get to the laptop but it won't go to any websites. It won't sync that way either. I can still sync via the USB cradle, and without making any configuration adjustments, I can sync via WiFi CF card. Anyone have any further suggestions?
