Hello Folks
How do I permanently wipe the PIM (personal information store) info from my IPAQ H3970?
Tried hard reset, nothing works…Want to give this (old) unit to my brother but when ever he turn on the pim it restores my calendar information….????
Thanks

It may not be taking your hard reset - I find it easier to hold it in my right hand so the connector is up - my palm covering the screen - index finger on button 4 and ring finger on button 1. With my left hand (ok - I'm left handed) depress the reset button. This must all be done at the same time for a hard reset. Button 1 and 4 are the two outside buttons on the unit.
This way, I only need 2 hands to do a hard reset instead of three.
Also - if your brother puts it into the same computer you use to sync - he may be re-creating the same partnership, which would bring back all your data after a successful hard reset.
Hope this helps.

No its defiantly hard resetting (screen does the fade to grey effort when it hard resets...).
Tried wiping the data from outlook it only partially deleted the data on the PDA/PIM (and there is a lot of information – 3-4 years of calendar information alone!)
Thanks for your response..

If all else fails, you could try reflashing the device. All data is erased automatically during the flashing process.
The rom image can be downloaded from HP's web site.

Never thought of re-flashing....
Give that a spin!

Sorry the hard reset isn't working - I just thought of another thing. My 5455 has the flash rom memory store - so anything I put in there wouldn't be wiped out in case of a hard reset. Is it possible that the PIM is storing the data in the flash rom memory store on the 3970? That is the only explanation I can think of why a full hard reset doesn't delete the data.
Just wondering.

It is true that some iPAQs automatically backs up some of the PIM data in the data store area of the memory. After a hard reset, the iPAQ automatically restores the data.
Reflashing is the only way that I know of to permanently get rid of the data.

Sorted!
Thanks to all that helped. Strange, checked flash upgrade notes & PIM option has been *** REMOVED ***
Well Bizzar!
Thanks again!
