My batteries ran out over the weekend and all my info on my Palm was lost. No problem since it's still on my PC & will sync over, right? Not so far. I keep getting the error Restore application database error whenever I sync. Any suggestions for getting around this? I'm stumped.
Thanks.

OK, well I've gotten around the previous error (I don't know how, but it's not showing up anymore). Now I'm getting the following error:
HotSync Error: Connection is lost (6410)
Palm suggested reinstalling Palm Desktop, which I've done, but I'm still getting the error.
Thanks for the help.

Hate to suggest something obvious but just check all the cables are plugged in correctly and the palm is in the cradle properly and doesn't get moved while trying to sync- also wipe the connection contacts clean with a soft cloth. It's very unlikely to make a difference but it's worth a try.
Good Luck

This is NOT a hardware problem, but a config one somewhere. I have got mine fixed but the method i managed it in, well, i dont know if it will work for you. Its more of a work around - not a fix at the moment. I dont think its a palm config problem either, but something within windows.
I had two computers, a laptop and a desktop both with builds of win98 specific to our company on them (I support PDA's for my company amongst other things) and the laptops were giving us grief with the PDA's. Basically, the build we used for the laptops did not work - it repeatedly gave this error or one of a variety of errors depending on how i installed the software.
I ended up installing the palm software on the desktop AND laptop, but didnt run the config on the laptop. I then ran the config on the desktop and copied the directory with all the info in it (e.g. jason, jason_blah etc) over onto the laptop after i had successfully syncronised. It did complain a bit but did work. I can also replicate this problem any time i like with our laptop build... :)
i dont know if you have access to a second computer, even a friends but it may well be worth trying this if you can. If you need to know anything else, just reply here.
It almost seems like it grabs some info from windows and imports it into the palm setup, but doesnt do it quite right with our laptops...

heh aye i know, but i am terrible at chucking stuff in a draw and coming back to it 3 months later if its not working :)
still, you never know - maybe someone somewhere may be looking out for this too and it was the only relevant post i could find with the search function! I know i was looking for an answer before I started playing around with it!!

Thanks for the input. I do still get the error, although very infrequently. When I do get it, I just sync again. Sometimes it works & sometimes it doesn't. Personally, I think it is a Palm issue, because my Palm is running REALLY slow the last 3-4 months. I've had it almost 5 years now & am looking at PacketPCs, so that may take care of the problem for me. :-) Thanks again.

NOOOOOOOOOO, DO NOT GO TO THE DARK SIDE!!!! j/k, but I would suggest getting another Palm OS PDA. There's hardly any software for ppc comparred to Palm OS.

I agree, avoid PPC. Don't touch them with a barge pole!
1) Price
2) They are REALLY slow- the Mhz don't bear any comparison to that of the Palm because of the complicated OS on PPC
3) No graffiti input
4) and it's windows- Windows is for the PC- Palm is for PDA.
