Hello. I just received a new iPAQ h1945 as a gift. The first step in the instructions is to charge the battery. I installed the battery and plugged it in as indicated. NOthing happened. No blinking light, no beep, nothing. I checked and double checked that I'd done it right, had the battery cover on correctly, etc. So we assumed it was a dud and returned it. I just opened my NEW new iPAQ and the same darn thing has happened. Now I'm usually pretty good at these things...so I ask... IS IT ME? Does anyone have any advice about this? I'm losing it...

Thanks. -Jill

Hmmm. You guys really are good. I just tried it again and it seems to be working. Scary. I guess it was me. (shaking head in disbelief)...no doubt I'll be back with more questions when I get to setting it up.

I'm glad you got it to work. For other users, you have to turn the unit on (or do a soft reset) for the initial charge to start up.

Thanks Answer Dude. Such a simple thing...you think HP would mention that in the documentation. :D

This story is true:

I was returning my iPAQ h3765 to bestbuy to exchange it for a new h1945 under my warranty plan. First the tech support people have to look at it to make sure something really is wrong.(Mine had a few dead pixels. :) ) The guy in front of me had a brand new iPAQ 1910. He told the service technician it was the second one and neither one would turn on or charge. The tech looks at the unit pushes every button, does a soft reset, even "flicks" the unit with his finger and nothing. He then pulls out the battery, blows on the contacts and puts it back in, nothing. He then gets out a voltage meter to confirm that the battery is infact working. When he looks like he is about to have a fit he shows it to his tech support buddy and he goes through the routine once again. I'm looking around in disbelief because even from 5ft away I can see that the battery is in wrong because the label with "insert this side up" can't be seen. The tech is ready to go grab another one when I politely pointed out that he may want to flip the battery. He looks at me like I just suggested something totally ridicules but tries it anyhow. And guess what? It worked. He gives it back to the guy and mumbles something about HP being crazy to make the battery go in that way.

Just thought I’d share to remind you all to check the batteries before you make a fool of yourself.

Nice story !!! I have now a brand new HP 1910 and when I bought it and firstly put the battery in, I've met no problems with it. Are there any common troubles with the iPAQ batteries ?
