I used the Infrared port to beam all the data and programs. The protected programs you can install by going to the palm directory, going to the folder with your user name and look for the backup directory. Just double click on the applications you want to install. Sync and all should be there. Make sure you backup the original full folder with the name of you palm device.:)

A different approach is to go to Palmgear.com and download SyncWizard. SyncWizard will allow you to make a complete mirror image of your Palm Vx then after the SONY Is installed you just need to start SyncWizard go to OPTIONS/Connections and switch to USB. Then hit the HotSync on your SONY. SyncWizard will show your Sony's apps. GO to FILE/Upload to PDA and browse for the Folder you made of the Palm Vx. YOu can then pick and choose which files to upload to the SONY. TO upload all highlight the first and then go to the last and SHIFT/Click to highlight all. You should scan the files for any Palm OS upgrades such as serial drivers and OS upgrade3.5.3 that may be present. Delete these files before they get on the SONY and cause a crash/lock up.

can the synch wizard help back up my address book and memopad too? If i have to beam all that information over, it will take all night. There must be a simpler way than that.

SyncWizard can do a complete backup of every single thing on your Palm. Nothing will be left out. Once you have SyncWizard on your PC start the app. Put your Palm in the cradle. Check in SyncWizard's Options to make sure it is set to "serial." Then push the HotSync button on the Palm Cradle. In a few seconds your PC's screen will fill with the Icons and names of your apps on the Palm. Go to SyncWizard's menu and click on SPECIAL then on BACKUP, when shown the path add the name or date to the end of the path shown (remember it) and click Start. When it is finished backing up simply go to FILE and then Disconnect. You now have a folder with the contents of your Palm in it.
Remember to use Window Explorer to visit that folder you just made and to remove anything you do not need.
