Is there a utility out there that can list port usage on the palm?

My M515 recently reported that it could not perform a serial hotsync (That's what I'm stuck with at work), because the port was in use by another program.

I eventually did a hard reset, and restored my backup., and all was well for about 2 days, when it came up again.

There's nothing consistant to point to an application, so it would be handy if there was a utility which identified the culprit for me.

Note USB hotsync works fine, but cannot do that on the work machine.

Sounds more like a serial port in the computer (COM1-4) is occasionally being used for something else. Perhaps you can list all the COM ports and the hardware connected to them (mouse, etc.), then juggle things around so that the HotSync cradle has its own port. Check also the associated IRQ.

My guess is that your mouse has the same COM and/or IRQ as your cradle. If you move the mouse so many seconds before trying to Sync, the port is still in use by the mouse.

No, it is not the pc, as I have tried it on another unit at work, and at home.

The error message comes up immediately, no chance for communication to the pc to time out.

Same happens sometimes to me.
Till now I can't find any reason why.
It simple comes and goes.
However, I found you always can perform a hotsync
if you don't use the cradle button but the hotsync icon
on the palm itself.
Try it, and success.

No joy there either, the cable I'm using doesn't have a button, so I have been starting the hotsync manually. Tried it on the machine on the next desk, with proper serial cradle, and had the same problem.
