Hi , all i've just purchased a 1945 this is the lastest version of the 1940 with bluetooth.
I would like to connect my Garmin Etrex GPS and use mapping software in the car.
Looks like I may have made a mistake in my choice of a 1945. I am confused about the lack of cabling due to the older 1900 series units lack of serial capabilites.
The 1945 must be able to use serial data becuase I sync using a usb cable.
Thinking of this does anyone know how the cables for the other Ipaqs compares to the cable for the 1945?
This cable looks like a clean way to go http://www.thesupplynet.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=6871

Will it work?
I suppose I could research the pin outs and make a cable like this.
Any one have any answers?

by the way this site has great variety of information on using GPS with PPC

Ipaq 1900 series (including 1945) do not have serial connection, that cable will not work. You can however use bluetooth GPS.

Etrek is made for serious outdoor adventures. You may want to keep it and use it as such. A bluetooth GPS would be great for using with your pda

Yes the bluetooth would be a neat way to do the gps.
However my wife thinks all of this is unnecessary anyway, and I don't have to purchase another GPS system if I use the etrex.
I have returned the 1945 and upgraded to the 2215 seems like a lot more capability for another $100, both sd and cf slots bluetooth, consumer IR, Xscale processor. Seems slower than the 1945 though. Have ordered the cable for my etrex and if it seems convenient to use the Delorme Blutetooth system some time down the road I can switch to that. Have to keep the cash flow at moderate levels see above.;)

Delorme has USB gps that has worked well for me. It's small, low power consumption and fires up fast. Now they have a bluetooth adapter that it works with. Good news for the 1945.
